Right now, Days is good at least to Aug. They have filmed shows to the point where they take the 2 week break for the Olympics. We can only guess that, once again, NBC & Sony have indicated they want to pay less for the show........thus EVERYONE was released from contracts, not just the cast. Corday fudged when he said the show was renewed, as obviously, they are still in negotiations. They may be getting close. There WAS talk of Days moving to a new streaming service NBC is starting called "Peacock", and so this is why this chairman said the show was staying on broadcast NBC....not going to the streaming service. Then in the very next breath, after saying Days is staying on NBC, he says "we are very close". This means they have not yet reached agreement. It also means the writers cannot begin story, as they won't know exactly who is returning and for how long.
Maybe some will have short contracts, some will go to recurring, who the heck knows. They won't say, or they lie.
In the past, renewal would be announced in Feb/Mar.
