Designated Survivor

They didn't kill her the first season or I would have seen it. Nowadays, seasons can only last for 5 or 6 episodes, as opposed to the old-time 39 episodes.

The last episode in Season 1 had her in a vehicle, on her way back to the White House, when it was T-boned by another vehicle, huge accident. Season 2 begins 5 months later. All we saw was the two vehicles crashing, not learning she died until Season 2, Episode 1.

The first lady wasn't killed off till the second season. It was back in either late November or early December of last year. It was right before they took a 3 month break before coming back at the end of February this season.

It is deceiving when shows take the mid-season break for the holidays, folks think when it starts up again, tis "new season". But it is not. When we saw the accident, it was just too horrific not to know that everyone inside the vehicles were dead. And yes, the wife of the president was killed just before the Holiday break at end of 2017. When the show returned in Feb/March of 2018, it was 3 mos. later, and the President was dealing with the loss of his wife, even receiving therapy. By early May of 2018 was end of Season 2, and now, the show has been cancelled.

I do agree with KathyLu that there was entirely too much focus on Hannah Wells thruout the seasons. She was a good agent, very capable, but wayyy too much of her adventures.

  • The following contains spoilers from theDesignated Survivor midseason finale.

ABC’s Designated Survivor closed the first half of its sophomore season by dealing President Tom Kirkman his most devastating, soul-crushing blow to date, in a tragic twist that has been on the books since last spring.

When Will Your Favorite Shows Return From the Holidays?
As this week’s episode neared its end, First Lady Alex (played by Natascha McElhone) brilliantly torpedoed Forstell’s investigation into the bribery allegations made against her, by making an opening statement — on the public record — in which she disclosed that the FBI Director’s fishing expedition coincided with his ramp-up for a senate run. Found out, Forstell promptly shut down the proceedings, giving Alex a big win…

…to be followed by a big loss, when on her way home from the FBI headquarters her Secret Service transport was T-boned by a truck, Michael Vaughn-style. Cut to President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), who was at a hospital checking in on a newborn’s risky surgery, receiving a call about the accident. POTUS dropped his phone and crumbled to his knees, wailing as Secret Service agents rushed to his side.

Feb. 28, 2018 - Season 2-Episode 11 - Partial recap

Ten weeks have passed, and now we’re back with a fresh episode of ABC’s “Designated Survivor.” Within that period, President Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) reels from the death of his wife, First Lady Alex Kirkman (Natascha McElhone). Of course, it’s not easy to recuperate from such a tragic loss, so Kirkman’s staff recommends him to see a therapist, Dr. Adam Louden (played by Timothy Busfield, who also happens to direct the episode). Along the way, a new conflict arises as Kirkman has to put his feelings aside to solve a crisis in Cuba involving National Security Advisor Aaron Shore (Adan Canto) and FBI Special Agent Hannah Wells (Maggie Q).

Season 2, episode 11 is aptly titled “Grief,” and here we see how Kirkman rises from his lowest point. The episode opens with Kirkman’s therapy session with Dr. Louden. They discuss his feelings about Alex’s death, and it’s clear how Kirkman feels overly uncomfortable with it. Subconsciously, he blames himself. Kirkman’s receptionist calls him for the trade mission briefing, prompting him to reschedule the session. However, Dr. Louden wants to help Kirkman deal with his grief, and so he waits.

Well to succeed they need to make some major changes in the show. For me the FBI chick is on half hour and I am weary of her surviving being shot, stabbed, beat up only to find a new investigation the next episode. Plus the politics of the show are a bit one-sided. I want to see a President who works with both sides of the aisle this season.

I don't suppose Netflix runs these again on a regular TV channel, do they?

Sometimes they put things out on DVD and you can check them out at the library.

Poirot, do you know someone who has Netflix? They can give you their password,
etc and you can watch on your computer/laptop. I have Netflix because a friend lets
me use her account.

Most everyone has cable, or satellite here, so would not subscribe to the streaming channels. Heck, it costs so much already. When you don't live in a city, you cannot even get "local" channels for free..........Thanks for the suggestion. Come to think of it, I have a friend who does not do internet at all, no computer, etc., but did mention getting it installed so to get some kind of internet channels. I will ask.

Maybe someone here will let you use their Netflix. I would, but it's not my account.
