Big Cast Changes part 2

Gabi has become unpleasant and one note the last couple years. She used to be more interesting. The character needs a rest and if that means she leaves Salem, that’s fine with me. They have done the same with Rafe over most of the 10+ years he has been on the show. He is very bland and one note with no passion or conflict that comes through on screen. He was interesting his first year or so when he was Sami’s bodyguard and the short time he had the doppelgänger. But the last 8 years his character has been mostly dull and offers nothing. With Hope it was like watching paint drying on a wall. It’s time to say goodbye to the Hernandez family!

Since they fired the whole cast, I wonder how that impacts the scripts. I am sure they just didn't stop cold with the stories, but there must be unfinished scenes (like with Kristian Alfonso/Hope) that will need to be edited or explained some way. This whole situation is so weird.
 
The thing is, that unfortunately, Days was caught between a rock & a hard place. The cast had that extended "break", from Thanksgiving all the way to Feb. then began filming again. Thus, all the cast no longer had contracts. When called back, the show began to make their negotiations for new contracts, since they now had another year with NBC. But, they already decided to write out some actors. (Will, Sonny, Rafe) . But, within a month or so, along came the ordered shut down. Both Kristian Alfonso (Hope), & then Greg Vaughan (Eric) decided "no thanks, am leaving. Gabi got ticked about something, said she was going to leave, and tho she may have changed her mind, the show accepted her decision, same goes for Ciara. No one thought the shut down would last this long, (we all sure did not) and prime time is shut down as well. So, there is really NOTHING going on to entice anyone, which just MIGHT have both the latter actresses rethinking their decisions.
 
I used to like and defend Gabi (especially when she went against Julie) until she gaslighted Abigail into making people think she was crazy again and had her placed in Bayview. Then when that backfired on her, all of her shenanigans against Julie just made her look awful, culminating with that device in Julie's pacemaker that she could control and threatened several times to detonate. I do hope, now that Jake is himself and not Stefan, that he will somehow bring back the Gabi that I used to know and like.
 
I cannot stand Gabi so I am ok with it. However, I just don't see this show lasting much longer. The people we have loved and want to see are all bailing. Right now the cast has been paired down to John & Marlena, Jack & Jennifer, Victor and Maggie (although we haven't seen her for a while), Steve & Kayla, Sarah & Xander :sick:, Chad and Abby, Lani & Eli, Roman, Abe, Gwen, Jake, Justin, Bonnie, Lucas, Nicole, Kate and adding Chloe and Philip. Who knows when Brady/Kristen will be back. This looks pretty bleak to me.
 
Actually, dachsie......that list of regulars sound like more characters than some shows ever had in prime time.....(The Waltons??)
But some of them are not seen very often.......plus this headwriter seems to write a couple stories for several characters, all others "rested" unless they get a "filler" scene which means nothing.

I think the actress is terrific and I have been a fan of Gabi, but the writing for her (and the whole show) is so uneven, it's hard for me to justify caring since the jump about her. If Ron could write grey characters, I'd still be vocal. But he has two modes for women: Witchy or Imperiled.
 
Jason, I like the actress just fine. I even liked the character with Stefan before he died.

What I don't like is how the writers can only produce material for her that is one note and monotonous making the character unlikable. Vivian, Sami, and Kate also fall into this category for me. Years ago, these 3 characters had vibrant writing showing different sides of them. Now they're just shrews.

On the other hand, the character of Eve was hateful for me since first appearing as a teenager.

I agree with Jason and redsquirrel. The actress is wonderful but the character is the pits. The same goes for Viv, Sami, and Kate. The material they have to work with is horrible but they give it their all! It's a shame to waste their talents that way.
 
I'm sure Camila Banus (Gabi) will return and while I don't care for Gabi much she actually brings much needed energy to this show and gives it her all. They really should've done a Gabi/Jake/Gwen triangle. Chad/Abby aren't needed in fact I would prefer they be written off again and this time stay away longer than a few months at least a year. If their story is nothing but Abby going nuts every couple of years I rather they be off screen.
