Christmas had just ended, and Hope was excited about celebrating her 18th birthday and the receipt of her first inheritance check. Cousin Melissa tried to warn her not to get carried away with spending money, and Doug and Julie were appalled by her behavior. Doug and Julie were not happy when Bo arrived as Hope's date to the birthday party. Liz introduced what would become Bo and Hope's song. After a falling out, Hope followed Bo to his place, where he confessed his love for her. The two began to make love when Doug arrived and got into a shouting match with Hope and Bo. Suddenly, Doug had a heart attack. At the hospital, Julie had some fierce words for Hope. As Bo was forced to step aside, Larry Welch began to take advantage of the situation. Meanwhile, Anna and Roman continued to hide out, with Bo's help, from the authorities, who believed the "late" Roman to be the Salem Slasher. Tom became suspicious of Alice's involvement in Roman's prison break, but Alice refused to discuss the matter and kept Tom at arm's length. Howie continued to pursue Marie. Melissa was excited to learn that Chris was awarded custody of Pete.

When Doug almost died in the hospital, Neil ordered Hope to stay away from her father. Julie lied when Doug asked if Hope was still seeing Bo. Larry offered his support to Julie and Hope, but Bo kept interrupting his times with Hope. Julie confronted Bo and asked him to leave Hope alone. Bo suggested to Hope that they keep a low profile until Doug recovered. Maggie tried to run interference between Julie and Hope. Liz, Marlena, and Alice were there for Julie. When Hope told Melissa she was determined to see Doug against Neil and Julie’s orders, Marie explained to her the seriousness of Doug’s condition. Eventually, Doug demanded to see Hope and told her to stop seeing Bo. Hope tried in vain to convince Doug that she loved Bo, but she agreed to take some time and think about her future before making any big decisions about her relationship with Bo. Pete made a nuisance of himself at Shenanigans, hoping that Danny or Chris would fire him; Melissa confronted Pete about his behavior. Bo panicked when Hope relayed the message that “Michael Brown” had tried to reach him. Alex told Hope he was praying for Doug’s recovery. Meanwhile, Roman and Anna, who were hiding out in a secret room behind a wall of books in the Salem library, believed that Alex was the Slasher. Anna tried to sneak out while Roman was asleep, and the library alarm went off. Roman scolded her and promised to send Bo for a bubble bath and cosmetics. Anna talked about wanting Roman’s arms around her, but Roman made it clear that he only loved Marlena. When Eugene presented Marlena with his Aunt Leticia’s letters referencing voodoo rituals in Haiti, they began to wonder if Roman dabbled in voodoo when he had his “breakdown.” Roman vowed to prove Alex’s guilt in order to clear his good name, especially with Marlena.

Oh my goodness, I remember those shows (and a few years before those too). I've been watching longer than I thought.
 
Thanks for posting those, Dr. Chip! I LOVED this period of the show -- especially Alice's involvement in Roman's prison break. Great times!
 
25 Years Ago: Doug asked Bo to rethink a relationship with Hope

Maggie told Melissa that she and Don set a wedding date, one month after her divorce from Mickey. Melissa lied to Maggie about meeting a friend. When Maggie left, Melissa invited Pete to the lakehouse in order to help him study for his high-school equivalency exam. Melissa encouraged Pete to leave the Vipers gang, but Pete wouldn't listen to her. He told her about his bad childhood, but he showed some feeling for his sister, Tess. Later, Maggie came home and found a folder with Pete's name on it. Maggie was not happy about Melissa seeing Pete, and she warned her that Marlena believed Melissa's feelings for Pete were common for someone who had been held captive and then released unharmed. Neil summoned Bo to the hospital, where Doug questioned Bo's feelings for Hope. Bo told Doug he loved Hope, but Bo could not promise a commitment and Doug asked Bo to stop seeing his daughter. Later, at Shenanigans, Bo became angry when he realized Eugene had been tailing him. Bo lied to Eugene and told him to tell Marlena that he didn't know where Roman was hiding. Eugene told Bo that Marlena wanted to find Roman so she could get him into treatment. Later, Bo listened in on Alex, who was eager to find Anna. Bo confided to Chris about his conversation with Doug. Howie had a pain in his side, so Bo took him to the hospital. Also at the hospital, Foxy ignored Julie’s protests and visited Doug, encouraging him to get well soon.

Hope learned from Eugene that Bo was arrested for speeding and possession of an illegal firearm. Abe offered to drop the charges if Bo would tell him where Roman was, but Larry wanted to put a stop to that. Larry promised Hope that he would try to help Bo, but Eugene told Hope he didn’t trust Larry. Marie told Doug and Julie that Doug was being released to go home, but Doug worried about being away from the hospital. Larry found a loophole in the charges against Bo and was able to get the charges dismissed.

Hope visited Doug and Julie, who were unhappy to learn she saw Bo at the police station. Hope met Bo on the pier and told him that she couldn’t see him anymore. Bo and Hope kissed goodbye, said they would always love each other, and went their separate ways.

Hope got dressed on the day she was to collect her inheritance from Addie. Julie tried to comfort Hope over her breakup with Bo. Julie was thrilled to hear that Hope was considering going to college and had asked Marlena for a letter of recommendation. Mickey visited Doug in the hospital and gave him some encouraging words since he had recently had a heart attack. Marie and Alice arrived to see Doug at the hospital. When Hope arrived at Marlena’s house, she ran into Bo, who had been snooping around until he found a photograph of the baka. Eugene and Marlena arrived, and Marlena asked what Bo was doing there. He gave her a cake and told her Caroline wanted her to have it.

Alice was catty with Mary Ellen, who later joined Tom for lunch at the Park Café. Alice and Bo also met up at the café to discuss Bo’s arrest and the progress Roman has made while undercover. After Hope signed her inheritance papers, Mickey offered to buy her lunch. Alice told Bo she was finding it more and more difficult to look Marlena in the face after lying to her about Roman. When Tom and Mary Ellen arrived, Alice cut the meeting short and joined Tom for lunch. Bo ran into Hope and Mickey on the way out, and Mickey realized Hope still had feelings for Bo.

Hope bought Doug a cashmere robe. Doug thanked her for the gift but asked her not to buy any more expensive gifts with her inheritance money, which he and Mickey planned to manage for her. Larry and Hope dined together.

Bo visited Roman, who was disguised as a monk. Roman explained the history of the baka to Bo. The baka represented good luck for the DiMera family and bad luck for the Bradford family. There was a marriage between the two families, and the baka was given to the Bradfords as a wedding gift. The marriage fell apart, and the Bradfords had a financial disaster. A chunk of the Bradfords’ fortune was lost to the DiMeras, and the baka disappeared for decades (until Eugene rediscovered it). Roman and Bo wondered about the symbol of the phoenix, and Roman reminded Bo that a raven’s feather was left with each murder victim. Roman said the Bradford family crest contained a raven and a leaf. Anna came into the room, complaining that she broke three fingernails while peeling 64 potatoes in the monastery kitchen. Bo announced that he was taking Anna away, so she could fly to Portugal until the investigation ended. Anna left Roman a note saying that she would not be going to Portugal, but she would be returning to Salem to act as his eyes and ears there. When Roman found the note, he met up with Bo at the gas station down the street. Bo told Roman that Anna was inside changing her clothes, but Anna had given Bo the slip.

Anna hitched a ride with a man who tried to get physical with her. She jumped out of the vehicle and ran to Alex’s house. Roman and Bo, who changed their code name to “Charlie Vincent,” went to Alex’s house, and Bo met Anna and the trucker at the front door. Bo punched the man and tried to make Anna leave when Alex opened the door. Bo was about to leave with Anna when Joan walked outside and said she wanted to take Anna to police headquarters. Roman sped off in the car.

Pete interrupted Eugene and Melissa to tell them he heard on the radio that Roman was spotted in Salem, near the riverfront district. Eugene took off. Melissa asked Pete about the application for his high-school equivalency exam. He told her he threw it in the trash. Melissa and Pete had an argument, and she told him about her own difficult childhood. Pete indicated that he was fed up with both Chris and Melissa trying to help him.

Alice found Marlena and told her about Roman. Hope, Larry, Alice, and Julie tried to console Marlena, who feared the police would shoot and kill Roman. Abe and Joan demanded that Bo tell them where Roman was, but Bo denied knowing anything. Abe told Bo he wanted to believe in Roman’s innocence but needed proof. Tony sent a message to the police computer system stating that another person would die before dawn. Tony, apparently the Salem Slasher, was shown in a room full of masks, wigs, cosmetics, and a raven’s feather. Tony received a phone call from Phoenix, who instructed Tony to make Hope the ninth victim of the Salem Slasher. Delia reminded a nervous Tony that he had to follow through with Phoenix’s orders and kill again while disguised as Roman.

Alex warned Anna not to implicate him if the police questioned her. Delia and Tony watched the TV reports about Roman being spotted in Salem.

Larry pretended to be trying to stop the shoot-to-kill order, but Julie questioned his sincerity. Marlena and Eugene went to the police station, and Marlena begged Abe not to let anyone shoot Roman. Bo left the police station, and Abe was suspicious of where he was headed. Tony dressed up as Roman, including mask and wig, just as Eugene and Marlena arrived in an attempt to avoid reporters who were following them. Delia made tea while Tony changed clothes. Tony worried that Marlena and Eugene might not go home for a while. Bo and Roman met up again and were to use Alice’s car to go to a secret place where they could review the tapes from Alex’s house. Hope went to bed, heard a noise, and realized “Roman” was in her room with a knife. Hope began screaming.

“Roman” got nervous, and Hope was able to fight him off. She ran downstairs to Julie, and Larry ran upstairs. “Roman” dropped his wallet in Hope’s room, punched Larry in the face, and escaped out the back door. Hope kept asking Julie and Larry why Roman would want to kill her. Marie checked on Hope and told her that she would be okay. Tom and Alice arrived, and Alice was confused that Larry and Hope both positively identified Roman as Hope’s attacker.

Bo went to see Hope, and Larry tried to stop him. Bo pushed Larry aside and ran upstairs. Alice remarked on Bo’s love for Hope. Tom said it was a bad idea for Bo to be around Hope, but Alice suggested no one could stop him. Julie was angry about Bo being there, but Hope convinced her to give them some time alone. Bo promised Hope that Roman was not the man who tried to kill her. Bo couldn’t give Hope details, but he asked her to trust him. Hope didn’t understand, but she told Bo she believed him.

Hope told Melissa that she had to file a report about the attack by “Roman.” Maggie ran into Pete and tentatively agreed to give him a chance to prove that he has changed. Speed caught up to Pete while Maggie and Don watched. Don told Pete he was late for a meeting with his probation officer. Speed threatened Pete not to forget the Vipers. Doug worried about going home from the hospital, and Julie looked forward to caring for him.

Hope told Melissa that she plans to work at Shenanigans and eventually move out of Doug and Julie’s house. Doug and Julie reminisced about Foxy as they awaited his release from the hospital. Speed invited Pete to a gang fight. When Speed criticized Pete’s high-school equivalency exam, Pete became angry and walked off the job.

Anna got a job as Tony’s secretary after Alex asked her to find out if Tony embezzled money from him. Anna was surprised that Tony had forgiven her for tricking him into marriage before. Delia was livid that Anna would be in the apartment. Delia prevented Tony from giving Anna a tour, and she warned Tony never to let Anna near the room with the Roman/Eugene masks, the feathers, and the knives, or else “The Game” would be lost. Anna told Tony she was staying at Alex’s mansion after moving out of Kayla’s apartment. Tony met her there, and she was surprised that Tony was so civil with Alex after only recently accusing him of murdering Renee after marrying her for her money. Alex and Tony discussed the upcoming benefit concert. Tony took Anna out to dinner but avoided conversation when she talked about Carrie wanting to see him.

Pete, who was beaten up by the Vipers, lied to Chris that he had a cold and wasn’t feeling well. Doug worried about Hope. At Shenanigans, Hope ran into Bo. She apologized for giving a statement against Roman, but Bo understood. Hope realized that Bo was jealous when he saw Larry looking for her. Melissa and Mickey met with Alex, who announced that he no longer had to inform Melissa of product development at Anderson Manufacturing after gaining 53 percent of the company.

Doug worried that he wouldn’t be able to make love with Julie after his surgery. Hope went to Howie’s office and picked up a package for Bo. When Bo found out, he worried that Hope lost or dropped the package; she didn’t. Speed overheard Hope ask if the package was for Roman. Knowing that Tony has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to Roman’s capture, Speed and Pete cornered Hope and demanded that she cooperate with them.

Once Shenanigans was closed, Speed grabbed Hope and threatened to hurt her if she didn’t reveal to him where Roman was. Pete warned Speed not to do anything that would send him to jail. Hope pleaded with Speed to let her go and said she didn’t know where Roman was. Chris arrived and fought with Speed, who was later arrested. Bo and Howie talked about the package Hope picked up for Bo. The package contained an explosive device that Bo planned to use to fake Roman’s death. Bo learned that Howie had a son who was killed in a store robbery. When Bo learned what happened to Hope, he told her that this proved he was only bad news for her. Bo told Hope that he had to get out of her life so that she wouldn’t keep getting hurt.

Chris and Pete had a talk about the gang members and the kind of reputation Pete has. Chris talked of having to beat up gang members when he was in school, and Pete was impressed. Chris let Pete know that he wasn’t giving up on him. Bo drove an emotional Hope home. On the way home, as they both remembered happier times with each other, their song played on the radio.

Doug and Julie worried about Hope, who hadn’t come home by 3 a.m. Doug sent Julie to bed and waited on the couch. When Bo and Hope arrived, Doug was livid. Hope tried to explain, but Doug refused to hear her explanation and told her he was through worrying about her. Doug expressed his anger to both of them. Bo reminded Hope that this is why they needed to stay apart. The next morning, Julie and Doug were cold toward Hope. Tom arrived to have breakfast with the Williamses because Alice had early volunteer duty at the hospital and had just argued with him about Mary Ellen Donahue; Tom gave Doug a salt-free coffee cake that Alice made for him. Tom asked if Julie was having a problem with Hope, and Julie replied it was the same problem as always – Bo Brady. Howie was having breakfast at the Park Café when he was joined by Bo, who told him about what happened to Hope. When Hope arrived, Howie split and Bo told her it was time to decide what they were going to do about each other.

Bo and Hope admitted their love for each other and kissed, but then agreed that they needed to stay apart until Doug fully recovered from his heart attack. After Bo left, Larry arrived and wanted to spend time with Hope. While Doug was upstairs at home, Marie arrived and told Tom and Julie that Neil thought Doug should be told about what happened to Hope (the attack by the Salem Slasher). Doug came downstairs and demanded to know what they were hiding from him.

Julie told Doug that Hope was attacked by “Roman,” and Doug had a minor setback until Julie and Marie could find his nitroglycerine tablets. Hope arrived home and assured Doug that she was okay. Doug made Hope promise that she would stay close to him. Larry asked Hope to be his date to a social event. He told her that he wasn’t trying to take Bo’s place, but needed help getting out of a jam. Hope agreed, and Larry danced with her around the room.

Marlena went to Tony’s apartment to find out where Roman was. Anna said she didn’t know. Marlena was angry with Anna and demanded answers as to how Anna and Roman ended up on the run together. Anna made up a story about going skiing with a Texas millionaire; she said she ran into Roman and talked to him since they shared a daughter. She said Roman went on his way and her millionaire turned out to be a fraud. Anna also told Marlena and Tony that Roman was not “sick.” Marlena said it was convenient that the millionaire couldn’t be located. She called Anna a liar. Anna told Marlena she wanted to see Carrie. Marlena told Anna that she could see Carrie but that Carrie would continue living with Roman. Marlena threatened to take Anna to court and prove her an unfit mother if necessary. After Marlena left, Anna complained to Tony. However, Tony told Anna he knew she was lying because there was no ski resort in the area she named.

Howie interrupted a lunch between Marlena and Marie in order to flirt with Marie. When she didn’t respond, he turned his attention to Foxy, who soon took off. Marlena and Marie questioned Howie about his current case load, and he told them he was mainly handling divorces. Marlena asked if Bo ever mentioned Roman and believing in his innocence. Howie said yes. She then asked if Bo ever mentioned Anna’s name, and Howie evaded the question. Later, Howie offered to take Marie and Marlena to the horse races. Tony questioned Anna’s feelings for Roman, but Anna said she only said those things to make Marlena angry. When Tony left for a lunch appointment, Anna grabbed his financial papers and called Alex to tell him she was on her way. Before Anna could leave, Tony returned and let her know that he was onto her.
 
Life was simpler back then. Bo and Hope actually had some consideration for Doug's health.
 
Isn't it funny to remember how much Doug and Julie despised Bo back then?

There was just something magical about "Days" back then. It wasn't just the supercouple formula, but it was the characters, the actors who played them, the writing. I think it was especially the writing, back when they knew how to tell a good story.

Hope told Melissa about the incident with Pete and Speed. Melissa confronted Pete, and the two flirted with each other. Hope told Melissa she might get her diploma before the term ended, and that she had rented Bo’s old apartment at Shenanigans. Melissa understood Hope’s desire to get away from Julie, but she worried that Doug would be hurt when he found out. Hope assured her that everything would work out and reiterated that Bo was the man she loved. Hope and Melissa ran into Chris and Sandy on their way out of Shenanigans.

Melissa delivered some things to Chris’s house for Maggie, and Pete answered the door. The two talked about their rocky relationship and the rude way Pete talked about her friends. The two continued to flirt, and Pete touched Melissa’s face. Chris and Sandy arrived, and the moment was cut short. Chris told Pete he intended to speak with Pete’s sister, Tess. Pete told Chris to stay out of his family’s business, but Chris ignored him.

Anna sneaked into Tony’s bedroom, and he pulled a gun on her. He warned her not to sneak up on him like that again. Anna noted Tony’s strange behavior. Delia arrived with breakfast and was not happy to see Anna in Tony’s room. Anna asked Tony about Delia’s arrogance, but Tony explained that a recent promotion had gotten to her head. Anna tried to open the door to the communications room, where Delia was monitoring the computer, the wigs, the feathers, the knives, etc. Delia locked the room and told Anna to stay out. Anna asked Tony about the room, and he lied that Daphne’s jewels were in there. Later, Anna assured Alex that she was still looking for evidence. Alex asked if she really was interested in Tony or if she still wanted Roman. Anna told Alex that Tony was the one for her. Alex told her that if Tony was innocent of stealing his money, she could have him; otherwise, he would break him in half.

A social gathering, which doubled as a planning meeting for the upcoming hospital fund-raiser, was held at Tony’s apartment. Anna told Alex about the locked room, and he ordered her to find the key. Marlena tried to pump Anna for more information about Roman, but Anna refused to speak to her. Alice also tried to talk to Anna, but Anna had to leave the room. Tom asked Alice what was going on, and Alice said she suspected Anna was lying. Delia watched Anna very closely. Alex asked Neil to handle ticket sales and made cracks about his former gambling problem. Alex also asked Liz to help him with the entertainment. Tom said Doug would be able to help in a couple of weeks. Anna sneaked into Tony’s bedroom and searched for the key. Tony arrived, and she lied that she had been waiting to seduce him. He told her there was no way she could seduce him when he had a house full of guests. “Renee did,” she said. “And you know what happened to her,” he replied. Anna told Alex she was not able to find the key, and Alex again told her to find it.

Chris and Hope discussed a news report that Roman had been spotted in Atlanta, Georgia. Bo stopped by Shenanigans and evaded Chris’s questions about Roman’s intentions. Hope didn’t tell Bo about the apartment, but met with Melissa to talk about redecorating. Hope told Melissa she wanted to make it a place Bo would enjoy visiting. When Melissa left, Hope daydreamed about making love to Bo for the first time.

Doug worried about union demands affecting Doug’s Place. Hope told him everything would work out. She asked him about finding an apartment of her own, and Doug discouraged the idea. He told her she was too young. At Shenanigans, Bo ran into Anna, who wanted to know how Roman got to Atlanta and how he was doing. Bo played dumb and wouldn’t admit to knowing anything. Anna told Bo that Marlena was breathing down her neck. While Bo talked with Chris, a deliveryman arrived with a package for Hope. Bo saw the address and realized Hope had moved into his old apartment upstairs. Bo found Melissa, who told him Hope loved him and wanted to be close to him. Bo told Melissa that he needed Hope to stay away from him for the time being. Someone from Hope’s birthday party arrived. Bo didn’t recognize the woman, so she kissed him to remind him who she was. Hope saw the kiss, dropped a tray, and ran out of the room. Bo followed her.

Anna told Tony that she was tired of the hostility between herself and Delia. Tony made Delia apologize to Anna. Later, Anna apologized to Delia and assured her that she did not want to flirt with Tony; she just wanted to keep her job. Anna asked Tony if he didn’t trust her, and if that was the reason why she was the only one of the three of them who didn’t have a key to the locked room. Tony refused to give Anna a key. Delia secretly booked a flight to Toronto after sending a computer message to Phoenix asking for an urgent meeting. The flight was canceled, and Anna took the call when the airline phoned. Tony was surprised to learn Delia had scheduled a flight; she lied that a sick friend needed her in New Orleans. Later, Delia called the airline and rescheduled the flight for the earliest time available.

Tony discovered that Delia was going to Toronto instead of New Orleans, but he didn’t know why. Tony and Anna went out to dinner, but he was distracted by thoughts of Delia scheming behind his back. Delia went to Toronto and met with Phoenix, whose identity was not revealed. Delia reported that Alex was still in the dark about the money; that she was confident Bo would lead them to Roman; and that Eugene was still searching for the baka, not knowing that she had it in her possession. Delia asked for permission to tell Tony about the “master plan,” and permission was granted. Delia then asked Phoenix for help in dealing with another problem – Anna.

Bo went to Hope’s new apartment above Shenanigans, but Hope was furious after seeing him kissing Janet. Bo told Hope that Janet kissed him. The two argued, then realized nothing would come between them. Hope told Bo she wanted the two of them to be together. She offered to use her inheritance money so the two could run away together, but Bo asked her to be patient. Hope told Bo she didn’t want to wait to be with him, but Bo assured her that they would have many years to be together. Bo told Hope that he knew what it was like to spend his life for only himself, but he couldn’t do that anymore. Hope invited Bo to come over to her apartment sometime. Downstairs, Janet asked Melissa if it was true that Doug had forbidden Hope to see Bo. Melissa told Janet it was none of her business.

Larry and Melissa were both looking for Hope. Larry told Melissa that he was excited because he realized how far he could go politically if he were to nail Roman. Bo overheard this and grabbed Larry. He threatened to kill Larry if anything happened to Roman, then shoved Larry toward the bar and left. Janet went after Bo. When Hope arrived, Larry let her know that Bo lost his temper and left Shenanigans with Janet. Melissa explained to Hope that the two didn’t leave together. Later, Hope warned Janet to stay away from Bo. Janet told Hope that she knew Doug had ordered her to stay away from Bo. Hope told Janet that she didn’t take orders from anybody. Janet let Hope know that she wasn’t going to back off, and Hope warned Janet again. Back in his apartment, Bo called the Salem Chronicle and lied that he saw Roman get off a bus 200 miles outside of Salem.

While Delia had a secret meeting with the mysterious Phoenix, Tony and Anna were out on the town for a night of dinner and dancing. Anna pleaded with Tony to fire Delia. When Tony stepped away, Don approached Anna and demanded that she come clean about her knowledge of Roman’s whereabouts. Anna denied knowing anything, but Don didn’t believe her. Tom danced with Maggie until Alice arrived. Maggie joined Don at their table, and Don commented that he wanted them to have the kind of marriage Tom and Alice had. After being questioned by Don, Anna asked Tony to take her home. The next morning, Tony was waiting for Delia when she arrived home. Delia told Tony that she lied about visiting a sick friend in New Orleans; instead, she saw Phoenix in Toronto. She told him that Phoenix was pleased with Tony’s role in the “master plan,” and that Roman, Alex, and Eugene were all to be targets; however, the next mission was to execute Roman publicly in order for Phoenix to obtain ultimate power. Tony bristled at the risk factor of killing Roman in public. They were interrupted by Anna, who was surprised Delia hadn’t been fired. Tony told Anna that he wouldn’t be firing Delia. Meanwhile, Delia called Phoenix and told him Tony was prepared to follow the plan. She also agreed that Anna should stay in Tony’s apartment so that Delia could keep an eye on her. While Delia was on the phone with Phoenix, Tony decided to change the plan and choose his own next victim—Marlena.

Tony invited Marlena to have lunch with him at his penthouse to discuss the hospital fund-raiser. Marlena agreed to join him. Delia was unhappy that Tony was going about things his own way; however, Tony secretly believed he would have to kill Marlena to lure Roman out into the open. At Marlena’s house, Marie tried to cheer up her friend and suggested that they take a vacation to Hawaii or Mexico. Marlena said she couldn’t go to Mexico again without Roman and vowed that she would never let go of him. While having lunch with Tony, Marlena felt dizzy and feverish. Tony asked Delia to call Marie or Tom, and he took her home. Bo met Alice at the Park Café, and she asked how their “friend” was doing. Bo told her that everything was going according to plan. Alice noticed Janet, who was staring at Bo from across the room. Tom and Marie arrived, and Bo excused himself from the table. A waitress told Tom he had a phone call. Tom told Alice and Marie that it was Delia and that Marlena was ill. Tom and Marie went to Marlena’s house, and Alice promised to check up on her friend soon. Bo rejoined Alice and warned her that she would be hearing lies on the TV, but that everything is fine. Alice didn’t like being kept in the dark and reminded Bo that she was the one who drugged the doughnut and she was the one who stalled her car on the road. She reminded Bo that she couldn’t get any more “into it” after involving herself in a jailbreak. Bo commented that he hoped Marlena would be in bed for a couple of days, and he asked Alice to be Marlena’s personal nurse.

Tom and Marie agreed that Marlena probably had strep throat. Tom left her with some antibiotics. Bo visited Roman, who announced that the arrangements had been made by some people Roman wouldn’t tell Bo about. Roman asked Bo to make sure that Marlena would be home that night to take his phone call. Bo assured Roman that the tracer was still on the phone, and Roman was glad to hear it. Bo reminded Roman that in one day, he would be reunited with Marlena. Alice visited Marlena and announced that she would be sleeping down the hall for a night or two. Eugene also visited Marlena and gave her flowers. Tony paid a forger to write a suicide note on Marlena’s stationery and prepared to replace Marlena’s medicine with poisonous pills. Delia told Tony that Roman was spotted near Salem and reminded him that Phoenix could contact him at any time. Tony planned to kill Marlena in order to lure Roman out of hiding; however, he did not plan to kill Roman publicly. Tony decided that he would be the one to win the game.

Eugene told Alice that he hadn’t had any impressions about Roman. Marlena was feeling better but was disappointed that Eugene didn’t have any impressions or vibes. Phoenix contacted Tony with the name of his next victim. Bo arrived at Marlena’s house, but she was not happy to see him. Marlena told Bo and Alice that she suspected they both knew something about Roman. After Marlena went upstairs and Eugene left the room, Alice told Bo it was killing her to not be able to tell Marlena anything, least of all that Roman was not insane. Bo assured Alice that Marlena would learn the truth soon. Delia and Tony were surprised when Anna announced that Alex and Gwen were coming over for dinner, because this might put a kink in Tony’s plans to kill again.

Tony lied to Anna that he had a late-night meeting with an out-of-town friend about the benefit concert, so he sent her away to meet Alex and Gwen by herself. Delia congratulated Tony, who received orders from Phoenix and left. Alice encouraged Bo to pursue Hope, because she could tell they were in love. Eugene was upstairs with Marlena, and Alice was in the kitchen, when the phone rang; Bo answered it, and he and Roman pretended to be speaking for the first time in a long time. As they timed their conversation, Roman told Bo to bring food and a gun to a deserted house. After two minutes and two seconds, they ended the call. The police traced the call and notified Abe. Bo told Eugene and Alice that Roman was in Salem, and Eugene left to go find him. Bo told Alice that everything was happening according to their plan. Abe got to the deserted house before any other officers, and he and Roman pulled their guns on each other.

Pete told Chris and Sandy that Roman was spotted in Salem. Chris told Sandy the news about the Salem Slasher reminded him of the tragedy that ended in his brother’s death; his brother, Jake, was the Salem Strangler. Chris decided to close Shenanigans and send the employees home early, and he and Sandy told Hope they would take her to Doug and Julie’s house. Pete wanted to leave, but Chris stopped him. Tess arrived for her “meeting” with Chris and Pete. Chris told them that he and Sandy were going on a ski trip and he needed her to call Pete on the phone a couple of times to make sure everything was okay, in order to satisfy the requirements of his probation officer. Pete wasn’t happy about it, but he and Tess agreed. Pete worried about Melissa being alone since Maggie had taken Sarah to the farmhouse. He went to her house and was looking through the window when Mickey arrived. Mickey was furious and accused Pete of spying on Melissa. He called Doug’s Place, found Chris, and told him to get over to his house and pick up Pete. Sandy worried about the ski trip, but Chris assured her that nothing would get in the way of their time together.

Abe begged Roman to put down his gun and go with him. Abe promised that he would take care of Roman and get him the help he needed. Roman pleaded with Abe to believe in his innocence. Roman told Abe that he believed someone was impersonating him as part of a big plot. Abe wanted to believe Roman but remembered what Marlena had said about psychopaths being very clever. Roman told Abe that Anna was with him when Joan was attacked by the Slasher. Abe couldn’t accept Roman’s innocence, although he wanted to. Roman warned that he might have to shoot Abe in order to avoid going to a psychiatric hospital and never being able to clear his name. Abe considered having to shoot Roman to stop the killings.

Abe put down his gun, Roman put down his gun, and the two embraced. A radio news bulletin then announced that Roman had murdered someone in the North Shore district of Salem. Abe, knowing that the North Shore was 45 minutes away, realized that Roman was indeed innocent of the murders. Abe asked Roman to forgive him and offered him his help. He wanted to take Roman to the police station so he could vouch for his innocence, but Roman said no one would believe him. Roman admitted to Abe that Bo, Alice, and Anna were involved in helping him. He also assured Abe that the killings would stop after tomorrow night. Abe found the explosives and wondered what Roman was planning. Roman told him that the plan was to let Marlena know what was going on, and then fake his death in an explosion. Roman told Abe that Bo would “witness” his death. Abe disagreed and said he wanted to be the one, so that his testimony would be believed.

Abe paid a visit to Bo and let him know that he was now involved in Roman’s plan. Abe suggested to Bo that he be the one to witness the explosion, along with an officer who didn’t know Roman. Bo agreed to the plan and told Abe that a car would be waiting for Roman, but he didn’t know who was sending the car. The plan was for Roman to reveal himself to Marlena, while Bo told Shawn and Caroline and then whisked Carrie away to his aunt’s home in Arizona. Janet dropped by and invited Bo to party. She wrote down her number for him, then dropped her purse. Bo quickly scooped up her stuff from his floor and sent her on her way. Julie received a phone call from the superintendent of Hope’s apartment building. Julie confronted Hope about the apartment, and Doug overheard. But he announced that he already knew, because he had received a call the night before from the same person. Doug told Hope he worried about her getting involved with Bo again, and he also worried about Roman being on the loose.

Bo called Alice and asked her to meet him at Shenanigans. Tony visited Marlena and switched her medication with his poisoned pills. He promised to return with a special dinner prepared by Delia. Later, when Tony called, Alice—who had been clued into Roman’s plan—told Tony not to come over. She told him that Marlena had already eaten and that she didn’t need any more company. After Alice went home, Tony arrived and offered to help Marlena by giving her the medication before she started eating the meal.

Hope professed her love for Bo, and Doug and Julie reluctantly agreed to give Bo a chance. Hope decided to go to Bo and ask him to meet with Doug so the two could get to know each other better. Janet showed up at Bo’s apartment because she left her wallet there. Hope arrived and was not happy to see Janet. Bo told Hope not to believe the things she would see and hear in the next couple of days, and he promised that they would have more time together very soon. Bo met Alice at Shenanigans and asked her to make sure that Marlena was alone that night. Abe asked a fellow cop, Greg, to work with him that night, because Abe felt he was close to cracking the Slasher case and catching Roman. Bo went into Shenanigans and pretended to be drinking. He made a phone call to someone he called “babe” and planned to meet her for a rendezvous. Bo spoke the address as he wrote it down, so that the officer would hear and report it to Abe. Unbeknownst to Bo, Hope was also taking down the address.

Bo led Abe and Greg to the deserted house. As Roman waited for everyone to arrive, Hope got there first and started pounding on the door. Hope called out for Janet to open the door. Roman opened the door, grabbed Hope, and pulled her inside. Hope tried to scream, so Roman covered her mouth. Hope tried to fight Roman as Bo and the cops showed up. Bo saw Hope’s car and rushed inside. He grabbed Hope and headed out the back. Roman prepared the explosives and ran out the back, too. As Bo, Hope, and Roman were running out the back of the house, the house exploded.
