Tony insisted that Marlena take her antibiotics (which were actually poisoned pills), but she started talking about how she was sick because she allowed her body to run down. She said she never would have done that if Roman were there; he wouldn’t have allowed it. Eugene received an impression that Marlena was in trouble, and he raced to her house. Alice saw Eugene at Marlena’s house, so she went over and tried to send him home. Marlena went to answer the door, and Tony pocketed the poisoned pills and the forged suicide letter. Alice was unhappy to see that Tony was at Marlena’s house. Eugene was relieved to learn that Marlena was okay. Marlena argued with Alice, who wanted both Eugene and Tony to go home. Bo and Hope survived the explosion, but Hope was worried that Roman was trapped inside. Bo told her to go to her car, then met with Abe. Later, Bo noticed that Roman’s getaway car was still parked outside. Bo and Abe began to wonder if Roman escaped the explosion or perished inside.

Alice looked out the window and screamed, then lied to Eugene and Tony that she saw a burglar breaking into her house. Eugene and Tony ran to the Horton house, and Alice sent Marlena upstairs to bed. Hope apologized to Bo and worried that she was responsible for something bad happening to Roman. Bo was angry when the media showed up. Someone from the fire department told Abe that they would be taking “the remains” downtown, and that they would be hard to identify. Abe and Bo were stunned to learn that someone was in the house when it exploded. Abe called Marlena and figured out that Roman was not at her house. He told Marlena to stay inside and not talk to anyone, because he was on his way over. Tom was irritated with Alice for reporting a burglary at their house. When Eugene and Tony found no intruder, she insisted that they sit down for a plate of doughnuts and a pot of coffee before going anywhere.

Alice detained Tony and Eugene at her house. She was surprised to see Abe’s car at Marlena’s. When Eugene and Tony left to go home, Alice avoided Tom’s questions by turning on the TV. The news reporter announced the explosion that occurred at one of Alex’s houses, and he said that Roman was believed to have perished inside. Alice burst into tears. Abe broke the news to Marlena that Roman died in the explosion. Marlena was hopeful that it wasn’t Roman, but Abe told her there was little chance that Roman survived. Hope comforted a devastated Bo. Marlena and Abe mourned Roman in silence.

A reporter found Hope at Shenanigans and harassed her for an interview about Roman until Danny threw him out of the restaurant. Hope saw Janet, who overheard the reporter’s questions. Hope got upset and told Janet that she was the reason Hope followed Bo the house in the first place. Janet indicated that she is not finished pursuing Bo, and Hope got in her face. Larry arrived and broke up the conversation. Later, he reminded Hope that she had promised to attend that night’s political fund-raiser with him. Hope agreed to go, saying that she has learned to start keeping promises to herself and others. Hope and Julie were surprised when Doug gave Hope his blessing to move into her own apartment and announced that he thought she was growing up.

Abe received word from the forensic examiner that a second molar matched Roman’s dental records. While Larry planned a press conference to announce that Roman was the killer and that Roman killed himself in the explosion, Abe called Eugene and told him he was going to Marlena’s to break the news. Doug and Julie took food to Marlena’s and were there with her and Eugene when Abe arrived. Abe told Marlena that the body was identified as Roman’s. Marlena tried to avoid tears by talking about planning a service.

Doug and Julie helped make arrangements for Roman’s service, which Marlena wanted to schedule for the next day. Abe gave Roman’s badge to Marlena. Marlena asked to be left alone for a while, and Doug, Julie, and Abe left. Eugene told Marlena he wanted to pay her back for holding him in her arms when Trista died. Marlena went to Eugene and wept. Back at the police station, Larry badgered Abe for answers about not following procedure the night of the explosion. Abe came close to attacking Larry, then gave him his badge, quit the police force, and walked out.

Hope apologized to Bo for showing up the night of the explosion. Later, she attended the political fund-raiser with Larry. Alex tried to have his photograph taken with the governor’s wife. A political aide told Doug that Larry wanted to become lieutenant governor. Hope was able to deflect a reporter’s questions about her involvement with Bo during his investigation into the Salem Slasher killings. Alex encouraged Larry to remember that in order to get ahead politically, he will need a wife and a lot of money. Larry agreed with Alex and told him that he intended to have both.

Bo and Hope both felt bad about what happened with Roman. Bo explained to Hope that he was working with Roman to find the real killer, and that Roman was not the Salem Slasher. Bo told Hope he was going to have to face Marlena. Don and Tony visited with Marlena, who was finalizing funeral plans. Marlena asked for some time alone. She assured Don that she would make it and told him that she is glad he found happiness with Maggie. Marlena told Don that Maggie was number one in her book; Don agreed but said Marlena would always be right up there, too.

Marlena thought of Roman as Doug’s voice was heard singing Marlena and Roman’s song, “Up Where We Belong.” Hope forgot about the party but promised Larry she could be ready in no time.

Mickey went to see Marlena and offer his condolences and support. Mickey reminded Marlena of how she pulled him through a hard time when she was his doctor years ago, and he promised to be there for her. Marlena asked Mickey if she should leave Salem, but he told her to wait before making a decision like that. Bo arrived, and Mickey left. Marlena was angry at Bo for lying to her. She told him that Roman was sick, and she could have helped him. Bo told Marlena that Roman was innocent and that Bo could prove it – he was with Roman the night Hope was attacked. He explained Roman’s theory about the Slasher and told her that Roman was not supposed to be in the house when it blew up. Marlena told Bo he should have trusted her. He tried to reach out to her, and she pushed him away, yelled at him, and told him to get out of her house. Abe called to find out if Bo had told Marlena the truth. Bo said yes, but he had to leave now . . . to figure out what to do with the rest of his life.

Bo told Hope he realized that every time she was in trouble, it was because of him. He suggested that maybe they shouldn’t see each other, but Hope refused to accept that. Bo told her that he would not stop until he found the real Salem Slasher, and he didn’t want Hope to get hurt. Hope told Bo that she would sit around and wait for him if she had to, because they were going to be together.

Marlena had a nightmare about Roman, and Bo rushed to comfort her. Marlena asked what he was doing there, and he told her he spent the night on the couch to make sure she was okay. Abe arrived and told Marlena about being with Roman the night of the explosion. He told her that he was going to announce Roman’s innocence at the funeral service. Abe and Bo tried to get Marlena to understand that Roman was concerned about Marlena’s safety and Abe’s career. Bo took off, and Marlena told Abe she couldn’t forgive Bo for betraying her. Maggie and Don arrived to offer help to Marlena.

Don told Marlena that something about her was different. Marlena told Don that Roman was innocent. Don wanted more information, but she told him he and everyone else would find out soon enough. Marlena asked Don, Maggie, and Marie to leave for a while so she could be alone. Don told Maggie what Marlena told him, and they both worried that Marlena was not facing reality. Anna was finally alone in Tony’s penthouse after getting a set of keys. She tried several keys and then found the right one. She unlocked the door to the mystery room and peered inside. As Marlena lay in bed, she remembered her skiing trip with Roman. A strange-looking, sweaty-faced Don drove to Marlena’s house, sneaked inside, and quietly crept upstairs. He entered Marlena’s bedroom, and she called out to ask if it was Maggie. She realized it was Don and asked what was going on, as Don just stared at her.

Hope told Melissa she felt responsible for Roman’s death. Melissa told Hope she couldn’t blame herself, and Hope told Melissa not to fall in love because it hurts sometimes. Hope became convinced that Melissa was in love with Pete. Don asked Melissa to go to Marlena’s house. Hope was invited, but she decided not to go. Melissa and Alice arrived at Marlena’s house, and Melissa told Alice Bo might not attend the memorial service. When Bo arrived to check on Marlena, Alice told him that she felt responsible for Roman’s death, too, because it was her drugged doughnut that got him out of jail in the first place. Bo agreed to attend the service so he and Alice could mourn Roman together.

“Don” removed his latex mask and revealed that he was really Roman in disguise. Marlena was stunned but overjoyed to realize Roman was alive. Roman had Marlena phone his contact and let him know the “flowers for the Brady memorial” arrived on time. Marlena wanted to tell the Bradys and Alice, but Roman told her they had to go through with the memorial service for the time being. He told Marlena he would continue to hide, and she told him she would be helping him this time. Roman wanted to disagree, but Marlena refused to take no for an answer.

Alice saw that her “rival,” Mary Ellen Donahue, sent flowers to Marlena. Alice and Don tried to console Marlena as Don tried to understand why Bo and Hope both felt guilty for Roman’s death. Alice told Marlena that she convinced Bo to come to the memorial service. Marlena had to excuse herself because she was having a hard time playing the part of the grieving widow. Melissa was happy that Bo showed up to attend the service. Alice found Roman’s police badge and suggested that someone should check on Marlena. As Roman and Marlena were in their room kissing, Bo went upstairs and started knocking on the bedroom door.

Alice joined Bo at Marlena’s bedroom door while Marlena hid Roman in the closet. Alice suggested that Marlena should brush her hair, and Marlena stopped Alice from getting Marlena’s coat from the closet. Marlena was afraid to face everyone, but Roman reminded her that she stood up to Stefano DiMera when he had a gun to her back. Roman told her she could do this. Later, Roman told Marlena not to let Abe exonerate him during the eulogy. Hope arrived downstairs and asked Don if she belonged there. Shawn entered the room and was furious when he saw Hope. He accused her of causing Roman’s death and told her to leave. Bo stood up for Hope and told Shawn to back off. Marlena went downstairs and said it was time for forgiveness. Hope decided not to go to the service, but told Marlena that Doug and Julie would be there.

At the church, Marlena told Abe that Roman was alive. She told him that no one could know, and he was not to exonerate Roman in the eulogy. Abe and Marlena realized that other people, especially Bo, would be furious. Don was suspicious of Marlena and Abe. Alice almost caught Roman walking through the house in his bathrobe when she went back for the police badge. She took it to Marlena at the church as the service was about to begin.

Abe delivered a eulogy that hinted at Roman’s guilt. Shawn and Bo were livid. When Bo pressed Abe for an explanation, Abe lied that he wanted his job back after turning his badge. Anna was unhappy that Abe didn’t mention her name in the eulogy. At Marlena’s house, Anna told Marlena that Carrie needed to move in with her real mother. Marlena refused to discuss the issue and asked everyone to leave so she could be alone. Once everyone was gone, Marlena prepared to reunite Abe and Roman.

Hope supported Bo through his grief, and the two leaned on each other as Hope asked Bo never to leave her. Abe and Roman reunited, and Abe agreed to keep an eye on the house so the Bradys could have some privacy. Alone at last, Marlena and Roman made love.

Melissa and Pete fell asleep while studying for his GED exam. Chris found them the next morning and was upset he didn’t know Melissa was there. Hope called to warn Melissa that Maggie was trying to reach her. Chris realized that Melissa lied to Maggie about spending the night with Hope, and Melissa explained that Maggie didn’t understand her desire to help Pete pass the test. Chris wanted Melissa to tell Mickey and Maggie the truth about Pete, and Pete was impressed when Melissa defended their friendship to Chris. Melissa called Maggie and told her she was on her way to school. Pete and Melissa began to look at each other differently.

Roman and Marlena woke up together. Abe called and said he was on his way over. Bo confronted Abe and wanted to know why he changed the eulogy at Roman’s memorial service. Abe walked off, but Bo followed him. Abe was talking with Roman and Marlena when Bo started pounding on the front door. Abe and Marlena told Bo that things are not always as they seem, and Bo realized Roman was alive. Bo raced upstairs and was reunited with Roman, who had to tell Bo he was “fired” from working on the Slasher investigation. Roman said he couldn’t afford to work with Bo any longer because of his relationship with that impetuous teenager, Hope.

Bo and Roman got into a shouting match. Tom arrived to check on Marlena and wondered why Bo was shouting. Abe went upstairs and told the Brady brothers to keep it down. Bo shoved Roman, and Tom heard the noise. He wanted to know what was going on, but Marlena was able to distract him. Tom told Marlena that Mickey said she was thinking about leaving Salem. Marlena assured him that she would stay around. Roman told Bo that the investigation is too dangerous and could hurt people, including Hope. Bo told Roman that he was going to help him, even if it meant he and Hope couldn’t be together for a while. Roman worried that he would be responsible for breaking up Bo and Hope for good. Marlena demanded that she be included in the investigation. Marlena, Abe, and Roman came up with a plan to use Eugene’s house, but they had to move quickly before he convened a meeting of the Lonely Hearts Club. The doorbell rang, and Abe looked out the window. The cops were outside!

Three cops arrived to express their condolences to Marlena. She thanked them for coming, then made arrangements with Bo for Roman to hide out in Eugene’s cellar. Abe didn’t understand the significance of the cellar, until Marlena explained to him that the cellar is connected to the tunnels that lead to Alex’s mansion and to Doug’s Place. Roman disguised himself as Don and prepared to sneak out of the house and over to Eugene’s. Before he could leave, Don and Maggie arrived to check on Marlena.

Marlena thanked Don and Maggie for their concern, then asked for some time alone. Eugene arrived and invited Marlena to a meeting of the Lonely Hearts Club so that she could be around people. Marlena accepted the invitation. After sending Eugene to pick up food and beverages, Marlena led Roman to Eugene’s house and helped him down into the cellar through the trap door in Eugene’s living room. Marlena dropped Roman’s badge as Hope arrived to look for Bo. Eugene told Hope that Bo was at Shenanigans, so she left to find him. Roman called Bo and told him that he was off the case, because Hope was always one step too close to the situation. Eugene found Roman’s badge and picked it up, then started sensing that Roman was near. Marlena went into the other room, and Eugene opened the trap door, saw Roman, and freaked out. Marlena asked Eugene what was wrong. Eugene said first he was seeing Benita Jean, then images of Trista dancing across the room, and now Roman in the cellar.

Pete received a letter about his GED but refused to open it. Melissa read the letter and announced that Pete passed the test. She became excited, but Pete blew it off. Hope and Larry arrived, and Melissa shared the news with them before calling Chris to tell him. Hope asked Melissa if she had seen Bo, then told Melissa that Bo left a note for her. In the note, he told her that he was breaking up with her. Larry congratulated Pete and asked if he knew where Diane was. Pete told Larry that Diane went downstairs. Hope congratulated Pete, then tried to figure out where she could find Bo.

Eugene thought he was losing his mind, so Roman came out of hiding and revealed himself to Eugene. He told Eugene that he did not kill Trista or the others. Eugene was happy that Roman was alive. Roman asked why Eugene didn’t tell anyone he was a wealthy man. Eugene said he inherited money when his relative died, but he didn’t want people to cozy up to him because of the money. Roman told Eugene he did some research while on the run, and he wanted to know about the baka and Eugene’s relationship to the DiMera family. A surprised Marlena asked Eugene if it was true he was related to Stefano and Tony.

Hope went to Bo’s to demand some answers, but she was shocked when Diane stepped out of Bo’s shower and announced that she and Bo were living together and sharing a bed. Diane was hard on Hope. When Bo arrived, he told Hope he couldn’t forget about Doug’s dislike of him, the heart attack, or Roman’s death. Bo told Hope that he was with Diane now, and she was going to have to accept it. Devastated, Hope left. Diane apologized for being too hard on Hope, but Bo agreed that it had to be done in order to protect her. Eugene called Bo and asked him to come over right away, to talk to Eugene and Marlena.

Hope went to Doug’s Place and found Larry. She was telling him about Bo when Doug and Julie asked what was going on. She told them that Bo dumped her for Diane. Hope ran out, and Larry followed her. Julie asked who Diane was, and a furious Doug said she was one of Foxy’s prostitutes. Julie wasn’t surprised. Hope went to the pier, tore up a photo of her and Bo, and threw the photo on the pier. She remembered happier days with Bo. Larry arrived and promised Hope that he would be there for her. The two left, and Bo arrived. He found the torn photo on the ground.

Bo told Roman that he broke up with Hope. Eugene acknowledged a distant family connection to the DiMeras and said the baka had an inscription for each family on the back. Roman asked to look at the baka, but Eugene told him it was stolen from his house. Roman wanted to figure out the master plan behind the murders, beginning with Renee’s death. Marlena told Roman that she planned to spend a lot of time with him. Roman told Marlena that if she couldn’t stay away, he would have to leave again. Roman planned for Bo to be the go-between for him and Marlena.

Bo went to Shenanigans and saw Hope, who accused him of being afraid to face her. Diane arrived and played the part of Bo’s girlfriend, but Hope saw the whole act and was hurt. Danny couldn’t understand why Bo dumped Hope. Diane warned Bo that he could lose Hope, but Bo believed he would only have to keep up the act for a couple of weeks. Eugene found Hope in a seedy dive and suggested that Bo and Diane weren’t really a couple, but Hope said she saw Diane after she moved into Bo’s apartment. Eugene called Doug to let him know where Hope was hanging out. Larry overheard and told Doug he would go get her. Bo found Hope at the bar and tried to make her leave. Larry showed up and warned Bo to leave Hope alone.

Bo admitted that he still cares about Hope, but Larry told Bo his actions betrayed him. Hope told Bo that she was through with him, and Bo asked if she was moving on to Larry. Hope told Bo that he threw her out of his life, and now she was throwing him out of hers. Bo commiserated with Eugene, then told him they had to come up with a plan to find the baka. Eugene believed the baka was in the DiMera home. He told Bo that he only had the baka for a year, since after his grandfather died, and it only meant misfortune for him. Bo asked Eugene if he believed the baka could place Tony in danger. Eugene said he didn’t know. Bo wondered about using Anna to look for the baka, but he believed it might be too risky since Anna was not supposed to know Roman was alive. Eugene told Bo that whoever was behind the murders was a genius, and he suggested more than one person might be involved. Bo wanted to go share the theory with Roman, but Eugene said Roman and Marlena were spending some much-needed time together. Danny saw Diane go down to Bo’s apartment and gave Bo a hard time about it. Hope and Larry spent time together across the room from Bo at Shenanigans, and Hope seemed to enjoy flirting with Larry in front of Bo. Later, Bo told Diane to get off the floor and use his bed because he would be sleeping on the floor.

Tony continued to romance Anna, who couldn’t get over the fact that Tony had forgiven her for her past manipulations. Tony took her back to his place, and they danced. Tony suggested they move to the bedroom.

Eugene took breakfast to Roman and Marlena. Roman showed them all the police records that Abe brought over. He planned to go through them again, including a work schedule for Kelly (the nurse) that went back five years. Eugene had visions of a computer monitor again. Eugene told the Bradys he believed the baka was in Tony’s penthouse. Roman agreed with Eugene that more than one person might have planned the murders, and perhaps an assassin carried out the killings. Roman said the person behind it all must have immense power and wealth. Marlena asked if it Roman was referring to Tony, and she said she found it hard to believe that Tony could kill anyone. Eugene suggested that the man behind the Salem Slasher killings could be Alex Marshall.

Tony and Anna woke up in bed together, and Anna remarked how Tony’s style of lovemaking had changed. She commented on how aggressive he had become and found a hickey on her neck. Tony wanted to take her away for a trip, and she asked to go to Rio. Alex phoned and told Anna to find what she was looking for and get over to his place immediately, or he would blab to everyone about her five years on the yacht. Tony told Delia about going to Rio, and Delia complained that Phoenix would be calling that night. Tony said he wouldn’t be there, because, as far as he was concerned, “the game” was over. Delia warned him that it wasn’t over. Delia called Phoenix and warned him about Tony, then stole Tony’s passport and planned to burn it. Delia told Phoenix that the monitor was installed and that everything across the hall was going exactly as planned. Eugene had more visions of the computer monitor. As Tony and Anna planned for their getaway, Delia fretted about Tony’s obstinate attitude. Meanwhile, Phoenix was on his way to Salem.

Alex called the DiMera penthouse to speak to Anna, but Delia told him she was out. Delia received an emergency call and went across the hall. Tony saw Delia coming out of the apartment across the hall, but she lied that she was visiting Mrs. Venable’s housekeeper. Later, Tony caught Delia as she was about to burn his passport.

Larry met with a reporter to review a nasty article written about Hope. Larry paid the reporter and told him to get the article delivered before time to take Hope to dinner, so Larry could “pick up the pieces.” Hope trained Pete to be a waiter, and Melissa was his first customer. Pete told Melissa that Tess still wanted to take him to California, but Chris was going to try to stop her. Melissa hinted that she might want to go with Pete to her high-school dance. Bo was surprised that Melissa was speaking to him. Larry reminded Hope about dinner and told her he wished he could take away her pain. Hope told him she didn’t have room for any more pain.

The reporter went to Hope’s apartment and asked her to buy his article about her, “Love Among the Upper Classes,” before he decided to print it. Pete told Melissa he bought a tuxedo, and Melissa told him she would let him know when she decided who her date would be. Larry let Bo overhear him tell Pete that he was taking Hope to dinner. After the reporter left Hope’s apartment, Larry went to see her and she rushed into his arms. Hope told Larry he had to help her.

Tony stopped Delia from burning his passport. Later, she had Phoenix’s chauffeur pretend to be the travel agent. He told Tony that the flight had been delayed by two hours. Tony asked Delia why she wanted him to cancel his trip, and she told him that the master plan was not yet completed. Anna was thrilled when Tony suggested he might fire Delia. When Anna left the room, Delia invited Tony into the annex room and tried to turn on the monitor. Tony refused to stay in the room, so Delia told him to go across the hall to Mrs. Venable’s apartment. Tony went across the hall, and Delia went back to the monitor to tell Phoenix good night. On the other side of the monitor, Phoenix said good night to Delia. The camera pulled back, and Phoenix was revealed to be none other than Stefano DiMera, who was very much alive! “It’s good . . . it’s good to be back,” he said. Then he began to laugh out loud.

Hope told Larry about the article, which included Doug having a heart attack after finding her and Bo on her 18th birthday. She told Larry the man wanted blackmail money. Larry told Hope that he would handle the matter for her. Tony told Anna that he had a business setback and needed to postpone their trip to Rio. Instead, he took her to Doug’s Place. Larry and Hope also were at Doug’s Place. Stefano thanked Delia for her loyalty and reminded her that he might have gone to prison without her help. Delia told Stefano she would never permit that, and Stefano promised to make sure she was protected as well.

Bo saw Hope and Larry having dinner at Doug’s Place. Doug wanted Bo to stay away from Hope, and Bo told Doug he was only working on a case. Back at Hope’s apartment, Larry took a call from the blackmailer and arranged a meeting. He assured Hope that he was not going to pay the man any money, but that he was going to put a stop to the blackmail. Hope was grateful to Larry for preventing a scandal that might hurt her father.

Tony was surprised to see Stefano in Salem. Stefano called Tony stupid and said he was there to make sure the plan was carried through the right way. Stefano revealed to Tony that Roman was alive, and Stefano had been keeping tabs via a surveillance monitor set up by the same people who were projecting images of Trista onto Eugene’s wall. Stefano told Tony that Eugene and Bo were helping Roman, and that Marlena was probably in on it, too. Tony suggested ending the game by disguising himself as Eugene and killing Roman, but Stefano demanded that Roman must die only on Stefano’s terms. He then produced a fake newspaper with a headline about Roman being killed as thousands watched. Stefano told Tony that he wanted film stars, other celebrities, and political leaders to be involved in the benefit concert so there would be national attention. Stefano then told Tony that he wanted him to kill Roman at the benefit concert.

Stefano found it ironic that he and Roman had the same idea – to fake their deaths. He said that Roman’s mistake was to make his “death” such a grand production. Delia told Stefano that no one ever suspected that he faked his stroke. She said the drugs could have been fatal, and she worried for a day or two that he might not recover from the drugs. Stefano remembered Kelly’s part in covering up the ruse as well as Trista almost interfering with the plan. Stefano told Delia that he was ashes, but he now he had risen as the one true phoenix.

Eugene told Roman and Bo that he found Kelly’s sister, Molly. Eugene arranged a meeting with her at Doug’s Place, and Roman asked Bo to go there and watch to see if anyone was watching Molly. Eugene said he felt for Molly, who wanted to understand why her sister was murdered. Eugene feared the Bradford family curse may have been responsible for Trista’s death. Bo told Eugene that he was not responsible, but Eugene reminded Bo that Trista was holding a raven’s feather and had a poisoned knife in her back. The Bradford family crest included a raven and a leaf, maybe from a poisonous plant, and the DiMera family crest included a leaf and a sword. Julie was not happy to see Bo at Doug’s Place. He assured her that he was not following Hope. Julie thanked him for not making a scene, then told him she was glad that he and Hope were “kaput.” Molly told Eugene she believed her sister knew something about a cover-up. Eugene said he liked Kelly and was surprised she turned to prostitution after quitting her job at the hospital. But Kelly had told Eugene she needed the money. Molly showed Eugene a savings-account passbook that showed an entry for $50,000. Eugene, Bo, and Roman realized someone paid Kelly for her silence before she was murdered.

Roman, Marlena, Bo, and Eugene tried to determine the significance of March 8, 1983, the date Kelly deposited $50,000 into her bank account. Roman remembered that Stefano DiMera died that day, and hospital records revealed that Kelly was working in the ER. Roman wondered if Kelly learned a DiMera secret and was paid to keep quiet. Tony called and asked Marlena to lunch at Doug’s Place to discuss the benefit concert. Roman disguised himself as a bag lady to observe Eugene’s meeting with Kelly’s sister, Molly, but Molly denied hearing her sister mention Stefano. She did say, however, that her sister was afraid of Alex. Eugene received a phone call from Delia, who pretended to be his dead wife, Benita Jean, and kept asking, “Why did I have to die, Eugene?”

Tony had a nightmare in which Delia reminded him that he was to kill Roman at the benefit concert. Tony mumbled Roman and Marlena’s names in his sleep, which startled Anna. She later surprised Tony with a bubble bath that included a rubber duck like they always had when they were married. Tony didn’t seem to understand the significance of the duck. He also was surprised when Anna told him he had been mean to her in the past. Anna questioned Tony about the possibility of marriage and told him she thought their marriage would have worked had it not been for Renee. Tony left Anna in the bathtub so he could take care of a business matter, and Anna was left to remark to herself how the old Tony never would have done that. Delia worried that Anna would be a problem. Delia reminded Tony to make the benefit concert an event worthy of worldwide coverage. Tony told Delia he couldn’t wait for it all to be over, but Delia told Tony that it was only just beginning.

Delia hesitantly turned over the baka to Tony, who assured her that it would be safe with him. Anna saw Tony put something in his jacket pocket and tried to find out what it was. She felt that it was big and heavy, and he lied that he had bought her a piece of jewelry. Tony went to lunch with Marlena, and Eugene arrived. He invited Anna to become a member of his Lonely Hearts Club, but Anna told him she had reconciled with Tony. Before Eugene could search for the baka, Tony arrived. Eugene told him that he learned in Haiti that the Bradfords and DiMeras were related. Tony dismissed Eugene’s information and was uneasy when Eugene started feeling vibes. Eugene said that the penthouse was full of danger and then left. Tony gave Anna an ugly brooch. When he left her alone, Anna asked, “What happened to his taste?” Tony was about to do something with the baka in his office, but Anna interrupted him.

Larry requested a meeting with Alice, Tom, Mickey, Doug, and Julie. Alice announced that she was prepared to confess and go to jail if necessary. Mickey tried to stop her from making a statement, but she admitted that she gave Roman the drugged doughnut that allowed him to fake his death and break out of jail. She refused, however, to name her accomplice or to implicate Bo in any way. Tom, Doug, and Julie tried to persuade Alice to talk about Bo’s part, and Julie announced that Bo was now living with a prostitute. Alice insisted that there must have been a misunderstanding. Larry said he doubted he could prosecute her because a jury would have a hard time finding fault with a grandmother who did what she thought was right. Larry said he was dropping the case, and the Hortons told Larry they were indebted to him. Alice went to a bar and found Bo, then told him about her confession. She assured him that she said nothing about him, and she told Bo that she would do it all over again. She regretted losing Roman, who was like a son to her. She then encouraged Bo to get rid of the “trollop” and come clean with Hope. Alice was unaware that Roman, dressed as a bag lady, was sitting right behind her.

Eugene's visions continue

Roman told Marlena that she could not continue staying with him at night, because it would arouse suspicion and draw attention to Eugene’s house. Roman told Marlena that he regretted how hard his “death” has been for Alice. Marlena didn’t recognize Roman, who disguised himself as an older man with a sweater vest, glasses, and a mustache. Eugene received a call from Alex, who wanted him to be on the committee for the benefit concert. Eugene reminded Roman and Marlena that there would be a meeting of the Lonely Hearts Club that night, and he said he had a vision that their enemies would be there. As Roman and Marlena said goodbye, Eugene began having more visions/vibes.

Stefano's dungeon prisoner

Tony & Stefano – 3/9/84

Tony asked Stefano for permission to marry Anna. He told him that he wanted to marry her, then settle down in Salem. Stefano said he would think about it, but insisted that this adjustment must not interfere with the master plan. Stefano and Tony watched the monitor and overheard Eugene and Bo talking. Eugene thought he heard his dead first wife’s voice on the phone, but Bo insisted it was wind from the blizzard. Eugene told Bo that Liz came by and saw his sketch of the baka. Liz remembered seeing the baka in Stefano’s study in Europe when she was married to Tony. Stefano was furious and commented to Tony about “that despicable woman.” Stefano was happy to see that the phone call upset Eugene, and he ordered Delia to continue her efforts. Stefano told Tony that the baka was several hundred years old and played a large part in the history of the DiMera and Bradford families. Stefano said the two families were related by a marriage several centuries ago, and that there had been animosity between the two families ever since. He explained that the baka contains the legend of the phoenix rising from the ashes. Stefano told Tony that, according to legend, the seventh son of the seventh son never dies. Thus, he has become the Phoenix. He said that the baka contains power – negative power for the Bradfords and positive power for the DiMeras – which is the reason the Bradfords did not want the DiMeras to have it. Eugene saw another projected image of Trista on his bedroom wall. “Trista” was calling out to him, and Eugene ran out of the room. When Bo went to check out the room, the image was gone. Eugene worried that he was losing his mind, and Bo thought Eugene was having a nightmare. Bo and Eugene planned to head to Doug’s Place, but Eugene stopped in his tracks when he had another impression/vision about a computer. Tony assured Stefano that the benefit concert would have worldwide coverage, and Stefano remarked that Tony would be a hero after killing “the killer cop.” Stefano then asked to show Tony something. He turned on the monitor and revealed a dungeon, where a mysterious prisoner was shackled and chained to a wall, and wearing a heavy helmet/mask. “Good night, sweet prince,” said Stefano.

Roman and Marlena were awakened by shouting upstairs. Larry, Gwen, Eugene, and Bo were all squabbling, and Eugene kept repeating that he needed to get more firewood. Marlena told Roman that Diane is living with Bo, and Roman regretted that Bo and Hope had to be apart. Marlena asked Roman to let Bo tell Shawn and Caroline that he was alive. Roman was worried that Shawn would get mad and let the secret slip out, but Marlena didn’t think so. Marlena wanted to go with Roman for an “outing,” but he warned her to stay behind. Eugene and Bo went through the tunnel to get to Roman and Marlena. Eugene announced that he found equipment in the attic that was used to project images of Trista. He and Bo also found surveillance equipment, proving that the killer knew Roman was alive and was monitoring their every move. Roman decided they could use this to their advantage and feed the killer what they wanted him to know. Roman told Bo that he could tell Shawn and Caroline that he was alive, as long as they understood the danger and could keep it under wraps.

Stefano spoke through the monitor to his prisoner in the dungeon. He called him his “prince” and told him that the plan was going very well and that the prisoner’s destiny was almost sealed. Bo announced that Mrs. Neeley returned from a Hawaiian cruise and is now back working at a diner. Marlena showed up at the diner, and Roman told her if she ever pulled a stunt like that again, he would have to leave. Eugene and Bo put on a show for the killer and pretended to be frustrated with no leads. Stefano laughed to himself, certain that Roman was losing the game.

Tony took Anna to Paris and reserved a restaurant for just the two of them. He surprised her with a special dance number by three Parisian women. After the performance, the girls rushed over to greet Count DiMera, who appeared not to know who they were. Anna was confused by Tony’s odd behavior. Tony told Anna that he had a question for her and asked her if she was capable of loving him.

Anna was hurt by Tony’s question, and he reminded her of their rocky past together. She reminded him that she always loved him and how devastated she was when she lost their baby. Tony told her that all of that was behind them, then asked her to marry him. Anna accepted his proposal, and they began to plan their future as they danced. Tony told Anna he had to stop and make a business call. When she left the room, he phoned Delia, who held the phone up to the prisoner in the dungeon. Tony told the prisoner that Anna accepted his marriage proposal. As Tony gloated on the phone, Anna walked back into the room and wondered who he was talking to. Tony and Anna went back to their hotel and hit the sheets. When she left the room for a minute, Tony called Delia again, and again she held the phone up to the prisoner. Tony gloated to the prisoner that he and Anna just finished making passionate love.
