Good Morning Days friends!

Just finished an hour plus reading posts and trying to catch up on the unread threads. I missed my daily check ins with each of you and thought about you over our 5 day adventure. Here, as always, it is hot, 91F at 1:34am following a dust storm [evidenced by 2" dust on front porch/house].

We are mentally, physically and emotionally drained after our volunteer service. Hubs thought he would drop right off to sleep but here we sit reading our tablets. It is hard to unwind. Whatever you saw on the tv, read online, or heard from other people: Texas is in worse shape than they can describe. Or that we can describe either!

Such devastation and hurting people who still remain dazed and numb at this point. Hospitals and medical clinics are water damaged, shortages of staff, medications, appliances and food stuffs abound. Yet people come in with items they purchased from drug stores to relieve the needs of other hurt Texans! I have never met a stronger group of people in a disaster area whose first thought is for others.

Words are just hard to come by to properly describe the circumstances, it is overwhelming. Health threats are the next real concern as the waters in some areas recede leaving toxic waters filled with decomposition, viruses, bacteria and other unmentionables. Please keep giving, praying and supporting our Texan friends.

Well, Hubs insists we at least lay down and "pretend to sleep" before the children's alarms start bright and early this morning. Thinking of you all and wishing you a great start to your work week!

Noel, thank you for your service to the people in the storm area. Please say thank you to your husband, too.

Remember the animals, too. Four semis full of donated pet and farm animal supplies are pulling out from Tractor Supply behind my office right now bound for Texas.

Belated Happy Birthday to Daysd. I hope you had a wonderful birthday weekend.

Well, it is that time of year again here. Back to school time means that strep throat, sinus infection, and gastro-intestinal viruses are going around again. Some of the schools were hit hard last week. One is already thinking of closing for a week because of the number of teachers and students who are out sick.

I'm working on state reports and have meetings today. Then I'm in classrooms starting tomorrow. Those little guys better not give me their germs.

Time for the first meeting of the day.

Morning all.

Busy day ahead for several of us it seems.

RS - remember the golden rule of avoiding germs: hand washing is your friend.

Noel - welcome home. Hunny Bunny and I drove for hours going to Buckeye and back twice yesterday. We managed to get home BEFORE the storm hit. No rain here, but some wind and thunder.

School has now started for everyone, so should be busy at work too. Yippee.

Happy Tuesday to all.

Good morning, everyone.

@Noel - Nothing shown on tv is anything like being there providing aid to so many people, seeing and hearing their stories, seeing the devastation first hand. The people of Texas and Louisiana are lucky to have people like you and your husband and everyone else playing a hand in aid.

@RS - Stay healthy, if you can. I have a couple of sisters who are teachers that just went back as well.

Well, I am day 3 of quitting smoking. I had one on Friday so day 3 of being cigarette free. We had a good weekend. We met my parents and two of my sisters and their friends to camp with them for one night. We opted to leave the tent trailer at home and tent it, which we also enjoy. We decided we are putting our tent trailer up for sale while everything still works in it. A few minor things have been starting to go but at 34 years old, everything still work, fridge, furnace, cables.

On Sunday, we puppy napped our friends 4 month old Bernese Mountain/Labrodoodle cross for the night so he can get used to our place and we can look after him when they need someone to. For a puppy, this puppy loves to lie around and is chill about everything. It takes some work to get him riled up and at 4 months old he listens and stays with you off leash very well. He is going to be one big dog as he stands about a foot and a half already with big paws that make him very clumsy and uncoordinated when he actually gets the energy to run a bit. LOL!

I have been asked to return to write to questions for an exam I wrote a few weeks back so will be writing this tomorrow morning, which I'm glad about as I am re-writing one of the questions I think I bombed on. Fingers crossed.

This weekend we are tenting it for 2 nights in Banff. While the fire ban will likely stay in effect for the rest of the season, at least it has been nice weather. It is to be in the high twenties and low thirties Celcius this week, which is not typical for this time of year.

Have a good day everyone

RS: hand washing is good advice by Robin but also clear gloves. I grocery shop with gloves during flu season. Hope you have a great week.

Robin: glad your drive meant you missed the storm. I am so tired of our 105 plus days. Let's hope we get a permanent cool down soon.

Muzza: your trip sounded lovely. Kudos on reaching day 3 nicotine free. Hope your Banff trip is a good one.

So nice to catch up with you all. I got online a few times but the connection quickly broke. And I am still awake.

Good Morning,

I feel so behind today, as I'm now used to arriving at work by 7:30. School started today for Gena so I didn't arrive until 8:45, although normally it will be 8:15. I'll be working through lunch today to make up for my tardiness. But I needed to fill in the paperwork for her antacids to be kept with the school nurse and make sure she was all settled into class before I left. She was tickled that I could stay until she was seated in her desk.

Noel - welcome home to you and your husband. Thank you both for helping all those people.

RS - yikes, so many sick kids already. I hope you stay healthy this school year.

Muzz - good work on not smoking in 3 days. I can't imagine how hard that must be. Glad you had a wonderful weekend camping.

We had a crazy weekend. Saturday was errands in between rain showers, and then my grand-daughter slept over Saturday night. Sunday was church and wrangling the 2 girls before we took Yuna (my granddaughter) home. Yesterday Gena and I spent the day at the Milwaukee zoo, with my mom and stepdad. They also took Gena shopping for school clothes and got her about 8 tops and 4 new pairs of pants, all of which Gena picked out. Such a little fashionista.

Happy Tuesday!

Good morning everyone. School is back in full swing for the girls. Ava got Bluejay of the Week for her class the first week and Annabelle got it for her class the second week of school.

Saturday, we were out working with the pigs as one had gotten out and another was trying to get out. With the rain not coordinating right with Hubby's days off and not having the ground dry enough in their pens when he is off, we haven't been able to fix the pens as we really need to. So as I was attempting to adjust a panel to keep in the second pig (our biggest male), I stepped wrong and dislocated my right kneecap. Thankfully, Hubby and Annabelle were outside when it happened. So, a trip to the ER to have them pop it back in. They had to put me under to do it after three unsuccessful tries. So, I'm in a long brace until I get ahold of the orthopedic doctors' office to get an appointment.

So the girls are getting to and from school by the parent of one of Annabelle's classmates this week and Hubby will be off work next week. And the girls are old enough to help out more, so we're doing well. I had a few books from the library checked out last week, so I have reading material and I have Netflix.

Not what I had planned for the long weekend. The girls did still get to go to my mom's cookout on Sunday, and Hubby brought me some leftovers, so I didn't miss out on some of my favorite foods.

Good morning. Noel, it's good to see you back. I know the coastal Texans appreciate all the help. It is interesting hearing your first hand report.

Muzz, best wishes on giving up the smokes. You'll probably never regret it. I never have.

Manda, my daughter was a fashionista too. They know what they want from an early age!

Robin, as someone who drives distances to shop, I felt for you about making that trip twice in a row.

Squirrel, I can hardly stand thinking about you getting back into those germ pits again already. Lately, I've been thinking about trying what Noel said about wearing the disposable gloves when I shop. I keep boxes of them at home to use for a number of things.

Kat, I absolutely loved your picture from yesterday of you petting the giraffe! What fun!

It was kind of a rough weekend for me. Husband was having some issues that required a lot of attention, and that migraine wouldn't let go until late yesterday. I was okay this morning but now it is trying to come back. No wonder, since I hardly slept last night. Went to bed at 11:00 and went right to sleep. An hour later I had a dream that woke me with a start. Heart racing. It seemed real and took a minute to realize it wasn't but by then I was wide awake until after 4:00. Home health nurse is on the way. I need to get up and move.

Good morning, all!

Tis a very smoke-filled morning here! Car coated with ash. Ash particles in the air like a very fine snow fall. My throat and nasal passages do NOT want me to be outside in this!

Noel - bless you and your husband for all your help for those folks in Texas!! Looks like Florida may be the next state to get hammered!

RF: what a blessing your husband was there when your knee dislocated and was able to take you to ER. Glad you had leftovers at home yesterday as you let that knee heal.

OC: oh, not another migraine. Sure hope it doesn't manifest full strength and a nap weakens its hold. The home health nurse can help your husband so you both can sleep tonight.

LiL0: the fires raging in Montana and California are huge too. How uncomfortable to have ash coating everything and causing coughing bouts. Hope it clears soon. Stay safe.

Unfortunately, hand washing and gloves are no defense against a child who coughs or sneezes directly in your face from 12 to 24 inches away. Wearing a surgical mask is out of the question because the kids are afraid of them, and I can't get them to cooperate.

The amount of animal supplies that were donated in my town for Texas astonished everyone. One company donated a semi and driver, and the organizers thought they'd never fill it. When I took my donations over Friday, the truck was half full. By Saturday, they had to ask 3 more companies to donate trucks and drivers. Two of the local (across the line in Ohio) tv trucks followed me through the parking lot at 6:45 this morning. They were going over to film the send off for the trucks. My local police were escorting them to the interstate.

RS: nurses get sneezed/coughed on too and use aloe wipes to quickly clean exposed areas. Most of us touch are face, hands, arms, etc. many times daily and if germs are not wiped off we transfer them. I do understand about not being able to wear a mask because unless a nurse is in a ICU/Contagious disease ward they do not wear them either. Crossing my fingers you are not exposed to anything your body hasn't build up antibodies too yet. Love how your area has donated selflessly to the people of Texas!

Good afternoon. I had errands to run this morning. I didn't go to town yesterday because the vet's office was closed. There were pallets of bottled water everywhere at WalMart and more being rolled out while I was there. Since no one knows exactly where Hurricane Irma will go and this area is on one of the projected paths, we are getting ready.

Health threats are the next real concern as the waters in some areas recede leaving toxic waters filled with decomposition, viruses, bacteria and other unmentionables.

This is always a threat after a flood. Public water supplies and private water wells that have been flooded all must be tested by the proper authorities before water is considered safe to drink. Just flooded public sewage treatment plants and private onsite sewage disposal systems are enough to cause a lot of illness.

I grocery shop with gloves during flu season

I couldn't recommend using gloves. Gloves are as easily contaminated as bare hands and often give people a false sense of security, because they don't know to change them often. I saw this all the time when I worked at the health department inspecting food service establishment. People would always say, "Well, I was wearing gloves." LOL Washing hands often, changing gloves between tasks, or using hand sanitizer (in cases like shopping) would be a better way to go. Many stores provide sanitizing wipes at the door.

Take care everyone!

A cool, cloudy day here. The cold front came, but didn't bring any rain. I guess it will
depend where Irma goes when my area will get some.

Today my first day back to school two weeks after school started. I have another big
project to do in the library. Last year, before school was out they moved all the special
set of books the teachers use. I'm not sure how many magazine holders there are or
how many set of books either. I'm putting each set in computer to keep track of
them better. Each set has five to seven books. The teacher checks them out and
she has to keep track what student uses them. The one wall is full of them.

Noel, thanks to you and your husband helping out in Texas. The woman's son that
was visiting went home to Houston yesterday.

rs, stay safe from the sickness. I wonder if drawing something on a mask would make them
less scary for kids? A funny smile, tongue sticking out. Or maybe you can make a game and
have them wear one too. Just a thought.

Muzzaman, don't give up on the battle of not smoking. Take one day at time.

manda, sounds like you had a good weekend.

OC, I hope your headache goes away soon.

rocky, feel better soon.

kt, thanks for the info on the gloves. One checker at Walmart wears them, but she doesn't
change them after each customer and she probably should.

Prayers for all. So much stuff going on and I read we have never had two bad hurricanes
come in a year.

Good afternoon......Raining on and off here.......Rocky, was good to hear from you at last, have missed you! Glad the girls are o.k. Noel, bet you sleep good tonight, as you unwind throughout the day, and get back to your daily routines.

First day of school here, so the school buses are on the road again. When it gets cold up here, and I am wearing gloves, they do not come off when shopping in the supermarket. Even tho I use santizing wipes on the cart handles, child seat and all, gloves never come off. Nope, who knows, as you shop, what is on the cans, pkgs, etc, one handles. LOL. A sneeze, cough...yep, wash the gloves at home. But admittedly, not those clear ones, just my regular winter gloves. :)

RS, I remember it well, the problems when I used to test kids.

So much stuff going on and I read we have never had two bad hurricanes
come in a year.

Hurricane Katrina hit the beginning of September of 2005 and Hurricane Rita the end of September:

Hurricane Rita was the fourth-most intense Atlantic hurricane ever recorded and the most intense tropical cyclone ever observed in the Gulf of Mexico. Part of the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, which included three of the six most intense Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded (along with #1 Wilma and #6 Katrina), Rita was the seventeenth named storm, tenth hurricane, and fifth major hurricane of the 2005 season. Rita formed near The Bahamas from a tropical wave on September 18, 2005 that originally developed off the coast of West Africa. It moved westward, and after passing through the Florida Straits, Rita entered an environment of abnormally warm waters. Moving west-northwest, it rapidly intensified to reach peak winds of 180 mph (285 km/h), achieving Category 5 status on September 21st.

However, as Rita approached land through September 24th, it weakened to a Category 3 and began to curve to the northwest, making landfall between Sabine Pass, Texas and Holly Beach, Louisiana with winds of 120 mph (195 km/h). Rapidly weakening over land, Rita degenerated into a large low-pressure area over the lower Mississippi Valley by September 26th.

I remember because I was doing support for Texas, Alabama, Georgia districts that year alone as the rest of support was stationed in Alabama. I was very busy for the month of September.

It truly is heart warming to hear of all the ways people from every direction have come up with to help the hurricane victims. I hope people in the fire areas get the help they need as well. I was beginning to think the fires in Montana would never show up on the national news but I've seen some reports about them today.

Squirrel, you are so right. There's almost no way to avoid germs when around small children. I'm a compulsive hand washer at home but it's hard to do that when out shopping. I've also thought what Kt said about the gloves. What's to keep the germs from sticking on the gloves, same as hands? But like Poirot, in winter, I wear regular gloves while shopping. I'm always thinking about germs in seasons where people are coughing and sneezing. I try very hard not to touch my face while in the store. I keep a bottle of alcohol in my car and wash my hands with it as soon as I get back to the car. I can't use the sani-wipes because the perfumey smell gives me headaches. I haven't found any that's fragrance free.

Rocky, that had to be painful! Hope the ortho doctor can get the knee on the road to recovery for you. Sounds like your girls are getting off to a good start with the school year.

Kat, I don't know how you keep up with all those things in the library!

KT: the CDC does not recommend use of anti-bacterial soaps. Nurses do know to change gloves routinely but many people do forget. Whatever someone feels comfortable doing.

Kat: enjoy being back at school and your library project. Glad you are rain free because Irma may send rain your way later.
The school is blessed to have your services.

Everyone in Irma's projected pathway please prepare ahead of time. Thinking of you.
