Because Ron wanted the wedding to be on August 22 which was the date of Marlena and Roman-John's original 1986 wedding. At the time this was filmed, Eileen Davidson(Kristen) was still filming The Young & The Restless so she was unavailable to film Days as well. I believe either Sony or TPTB refused to let her film Days this time around which explains why she was able to do both shows in the past.
I still think they could have achieved a similar goal by using Orpheus instead of Kristen.

For me Eileen Davidson IS Kristen.
No replacement will do for me no matter how good the actress. She is one of the "DO NOT SUBSTITUTE" in the recipe of DAYS.
There are some characters that are "owned" by the actor who portrayed them for years whether TPTB like it or not.
I do not substitute margarine for butter in my recipes and DAYS should not either.
