I think the drink was Mezcal. It's made from Agave. I don't know much about drinks so I'm not sure if that is a type of tequila or just similar to tequila or what

I got curious and looked it up. Technically tequila is a type of mezcal, but there are a few things that set mezcal apart from mere tequila. Tequila can only be made from the blue agave, whereas mezcal can be made from up to 30 types agave, including blue agave. There are restrictions about where each can be made in Mexico. For tequila, the agave is cooked in an above ground oven, basically a stainless steel pressure cooker. For mescal, the agave heads are roasted or grilled for 2-3 days over hot rocks in an in-ground. Mezcal has a smoky flavor, while tequila does not. Mezcal reportedly tastes richer and sweeter. Some cheaper mezcals are made more like tequila and taste about the same.

Here are the sites I got my info from https://acapulcos.net/mezcal-versus-tequila-whats-the-difference/ http://mezcalphd.com/2012/08/tequila-vs-mezcal/
