Pet Peeves

Noel: true. I just see so much of "I don't see that ever happening" on here, and I just think back to EJ and Sami. I really thought no one would ever go so low as to make their rape and victim story "romantic", yet here we are. The writers did romanticize them and now we live in a sea of people that love them as the "romantic couple" that they think they are (said with more sarcasm than I can ever portray in a forum like this). So yeah, never ever underestimate just how low the writers of a soap will go.

JS: I so totally agree. But I get it, it's human nature I guess. Doesn't make it right. But one shouldn't get enjoyment from poking fun at others. The decision to not respond to everything on the internet is a daily struggle for some. (there are times where even I just choose not to post. simply because that pot just doesn't need to be over stirred.)

LOL, yep, soaps do stretch the believability factor at times, in comparison to other dramas presented in prime time. But the fact remains, they are not fairy tales. People work, fall in love, get divorced, lose tempers, get addicted, commit crimes, fall ill, get married, etc. Therefore, it would be helpful if the writers took 5 seconds to check something on internet. I do all the time. The writers are supposedly doing a story in present day, & unless they invent a disease or a law, tis helpful if they at least TRY to be logical about whatever it is.

Now maybe we would not have as much fun with things if the show was not on such a teeny budget, all the while trying to give the impression that all Salemites have tons of money. Or if they had not got rid of their consultants and consistency checkers. :)

In addition to those double doors, there is those glass shelves in motel/hotel rooms, with the lovely knickknacks on them........and that single window next to a door, in many offices. Ahhh, you just love it, right? :)

Well, this pet peeve has nothing to do with the show but everything to do with this board. Why do people constantly complain about and break board rules instead of just leaving the site??? If the rules bothered me I would just go to another board....very simple.

I had a post all typed up, then it dawned on me, no one really cares. lol. Short story: it's a soap. Nothing is impossible. And my opinion will never change that.

Believe it or not, in episodes of Days I have noticed that they must have read the comments here because they leave hints of it. You never know, it could make it's way to someone's noggin.

My pet peeves:

At least as of today.

I didn't look at every post, so if I am redundant I apologise.

Bonnie: Is this storyline EVER GOING TO END? IT STINKS. You have a psychiatrist, numerous medical doctors, a corporate attorney that cannot figure out that since Marlena was replaced maybe...just maybe the same might have happened to Adrienne. And I am certainly not above breast/melon jokes but I don't find today's performance a bit amusing. Melon jokes and hot cross bun jokes hitting on a man thirty years older than you are? ECCH! Are these writers in the seventh grade?

Hope and Rafe's routine "I want you to be Commissioner." "No I want you to be Commissioner" ad nauseam. and stop making out in the police station! Get a room!

Brady is jealous and obsessed with staring at liquor bottles.

Nicole loves Eric. Eric is depressed.

Poor poor "nobody loves me even though I dress like a high priced call girl for the lunch hour" Gabi.

Good ole standbys used at least once a show:

Skulking. Someone is on the phone saying something private or important and someone (inevitably) skulks up behind them and overhears only PART of the conversation.

"I've got to get this" cell phone call at the most inopportune time.

I'm sure there are more.

At least, USUALLY, the person takes that cell phone call out of the room! (But of course that leaves whoever remains in the room time to snoop, or have an upsetting conversation if there is a second person. LOL

(But have to say, in real life, definitely a pet peeve when people are constantly on their smart phone, reading texts, e-mails, etc. )

This is probably kind of a strange one but mine is tall women like Nicole and Valarie are always in heels. They just seem to tower over everyone especially when most of the women in the cast like Hope, Gabi and Abigail are on the petite side.

It's particularly jarring in scenes with Valarie and Abe. I don't know why it bothers me but it does a little bit. Maybe it's because I'm only 5'9" myself. I said this was kind of a strange one. LOL

Although, and I've said this before, some young women out here actually put their "assets" ahead of their well-being. I live in Quebec, Canada. Believe me, during the winter, it can get very, very cold. In January and February, we often have temperatures reaching -25 degrees Celsius (-13 Fahrenheit). Unfortunately, I have seen women walking around in short skirts, shoes and... no stockings ! Sometimes, it feels like women are making progress, other times... not so much! I mean, what does it matter if a teenager is freezing. It's much more important to look cool. :sarcasm: (but pun intended).
OFF TOPIC - The first time I was in Quebec was in 1998, 1 week after the ice storm and will always remember this drop dead gorgeous woman standing outside in a very short dress in high heels having a smoke and I remember thinking how cold she must be because I was bundled up pretty good. Just as a side, the women in Quebec are beautiful.

BACK TO TOPIC - One of my biggest pet peeves and I'm sorry if it has been mentioned as I have not read the entire thread are when steps who have grown up together or been raised by a step parent do not acknowledge them as family. I'm not going to go on about this this cause I can rant about this forever, but Marlena and Brady's relationship......it IS mother/son!!!

Another is Will not calling John Grandpa. John has been around longer than Will and a part of different families but this has been constant. Will grew up calling Marlena Grandma and as John was her husband while Will was growing up John is his grandfather just as Roman is. It can be argued that maybe Sami insisted that Will call him John but this has never been established. My grandmother was my step grandmother but in reality she was my real grandmother. She raised my mom and her brother from the time she was 12, had a better relationship with her than her biological children, not that those relationships were bad, and when she needed care and could no longer be independent, we moved her from Vancouver Island to where I lived and never did I ever think of her as anything but grandma.

Carrie has more of a father/daughter relationship with John than she does with Roman and I like seeing these interactions. Sami and Eric were also raised by John but for Sami just because of the boardroom Romper Room (An old Canadian Kid's TV Show) session she witnessed, her relationship with John is nothing. Oh it has been shown where Sami has thanked John and forgiven him but in the end it always goes back to her disliking him And while on the topic of Carrie, her and Marlena have always been written to have had a mother/daughter relationship, which is nice to see this continue.

Sorry but many Salemites who are steps could take a lesson on how to accept and raise children as their own and accept their step siblings as blood from the DiMeras.

I hate that there are only a few girls in each age range and a few guys in the same age range. More often than not they are related in some way or another. The main characters are not even seen with extras playing their friends. Last time this was shown was probably when T. was on and friends with Will and Chad. The same for when Chelsea and Stephanie were in the college dorm.

Like I always say.......Salem can trace it's roots right back the very first brother and sister. :):):)

And I won't even go on about Brady and Eric. So stupid how Brady treats him.

I think that's it for now. But like others I like the mention of past characters and storylines even if they are not coming back to the show. It acknowledges the history and lets viewers know these characters are not forgotten.

Romper Room (an old Canadian kids TV show)
We had Romper Room here in the states, too!

I agree, it is so annoying that Brady usually treats Marlena as his father's wife, not as his mother. It's not like he has any memory of Isabella since he was an infant when she died. Marlena was the only mother he knew.

Oh I didn't realize that. Maybe it was an American show then. I just checked and it is American not Canadian.

It is more than annoying to me, it is poor historical knowledge of the writers!
