Big cast changes

What's troubling is that they do this months off thing with anyone or I should say any character. Whether it's a money issue or they just do't know what to do with a character, it's never handled well and it makes the writing even worse when they try to explain why a key character is missing for things.

I think the problem is the writer is not able to write 2 or 3 stories at the same time (have them ongoing) and involve others. He seems to like to do one story only....maybe 2. Hope had her Princess Gina story, then he did not know how to involve her any where else. Oh, yes, she could be in several......but alas. Actually, I think she would have worked rather well with Justin (instead of Kayla).......but then all he had Kayla doing was be the only doc in the big hospital, specialist in everything. Oh, they brought in 2 doctors, sent one back to Chicago, and the other just whining and being home. We know Sarah has no patients. LOL

You're right about that. And yes, way back there was some flirtation between Justin and Hope, so that would have been the story I would have pursued.

I think if he likes a character he can do it. Remember how many stories Sarah was immediately involved in when she arrived? She was just sticking her nose everywhere.

He must have had no vision for Hope at all.

LOL, but he more or less "created" Sarah, though the character had been on Days, previously, but a minor part I think. And the actress is one he evidently liked from some other soap in which he was involved. But, actually, the stories & involvement of Sarah could easily have been Hope, instead.

Yes, I totally agree. All of Sarah's story, with the exception of the Rex, Eric, Xander circle, could and should have been Hope's.

Well, I am thinking that we wouldn't have liked nosy Hope any more than we did Sarah. Maggie and Julie are the resident busy bodies, until Sarah took over. Fortunately, Sarah hasn't been on that much lately, but I am sure it will be her turn to come back soon. They just did not know what to do with Hope and her big story was an epic fail, but I guess that was her last chance.

Oh, Hope did not have to be nosey to be involved in those situations.....she would be concerned, wanting to help, offering some sage advice or just listening. (And no, she would not have had to be involved with Xander. Sarah was running around town acting and talking with everyone as if she had been right there for years. A shame Ron tried to push her so hard. Hope could have handled all those scenes and it would have been accepted and believable.

So instead, they had Hope doing her Gina travesty, with no interaction with Ciara, or suspicions from her family, a whole year. Then she is back to reality, only to be used here and there as filler, with nothing to do. It is no wonder the actress figured now was the time to end her stay in Salem.

This is well thought out, Poirot. Pretty much how I would have written it.

Sounds to me like Kristian Alfonso (Hope) may have had her ego hurt and she reacted to that by leaving. Just my opinion.

It will be interesting to see what happens on September 1. These actors have been out of work since March so that's 6 months without a paycheck and stuff is only now starting to reopen for filming. So even if they did work elsewhere, they likely haven't been earning checks from that yet either.

You'd think these websites would confirm their info before posting a story.

TVLine is notoriously awful when it comes to Days news. It's not the first time they've reported incorrectly. Michael Ausiello, the site founder, claims to be a huge Days fan yet I've never seen his site cover Day of Days.

They should've been able to according to the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) website .
  • All workers who have been laid off, can file a claim for UI assistance if needed. This can be done online.
  • As a reminder, SAG-AFTRA successfully negotiated some significant changes in our member’s job classifications when applying for California Unemployment Insurance (UI). Click here for a step-by-step tutorial of how our members can apply online.
  • These changes also resolved a long-standing problem specific to residents of California who work in the motion picture and television industry on productions that shoot in other states in addition to California.
  • California Governor Gavin Newsom has lifted the normal one-week UI waiting period. Members can apply immediately.
  • If you are home with COVID-19 you can apply for Disability Insurance. The waiting period is waived.
  • If you are home because you need to take care of a family member who has contracted COVID-19, you can apply for California Paid Family Leave. PFL requires medical certification.
  • Paid Family Leave assistance is not currently a viable option in other circumstances. For instance, if you must stay home with children because the schools are closed, you do not currently qualify for PFL.

I don't think it was known that either of them was leaving when they were filming this part. But, yes, it would have given Hope SOMETHING to do that would have been appropriate. Claire could still have been the maid of honor (plot driven), but the mother of the bride should have been very involved.

Days has a very bad habit of killing characters (writer A), then later needing/wanting the character back (writer B, C, D) so they invent ways to do have the character alive again. And this is what happens when Corday pays no attention, allows the characters' demise, & Days gets ridiculous with all the walking dead inhabiting the town.

As to returning after saying they won't ever be back.....yep. Louise Sorel (Viv) got really ticked off a few years back, said she was done with Days, would not ever return. Camilla Banus (Gabi) has left, Kate Mansi (Abby), Peter Reckell (who did return, but when he left last time, it was evidently for keeps), Kristian Alfonso (Hope) has left twice & returned. These were all of their own volition.

Muzza is right about Lexie, who like Bo, said they wanted to leave for keeps, and meant it. Yes, the younger actors particularly want to do other things, try something else. But it is Corday who should be keeping an eye on what is going on, and put his foot down on the "deaths" of some characters. They could easily move away, take a job elsewhere, join Doctors without Borders, Salvation Army, touring stage company, become a fishing or hunting guide, design furniture, write for the movies. LOLOL

Oh, for sure. It truly is a shame...but he never would sell the rights to the show to the network (Corday is only one who "owns" a soap individually. )
